Abstract

Flat extended surfaces, surfacing and polishing.-In continuous grinding and polishing apparatus for treating< >glass plates, having a series of tables which move through the machine with their adjacent ends in contact, relative vertical movement between the end surfaces of the. tables, and consequent breakage of glass, is prevented by forming those surfaces to interlock, contact between the tables taking place only at the surfaces of interlocking portions. Figs. 2 and 3 show two forms which the interlocking parts of tables 1, 2 may take; or one surface may be in the form of a convex ridge which enters a corresponding recess in the adjacent end surface. Relative longitudinal movement is prevented by driving the last table only, or by positively locking the tables by means of lugs and wedges. The interlocking devices may extend over a portion only of the width of the tables.
