Abstract
A device for opening a flap on a letterbox slot consisting of a flap actuator with a hand grip portion which can be inserted into the slot with the flap (fig 1) then the actuator rotated to open the flap and held there whilst objects are posted into the letterbox. Once the post has been deposited through the letterbox the device can be rotated to a position allowing its removal (fig 3) from the slot. The prevents the fingers of the letterbox user becoming trapped or being attacked by an animal on the inside.
Description
SAFETY LETTERBOX OPEI
This invention relates to a safety letterbox opener
When delivering letters postmen usually open the letterbox with the fingers of one hand and post the letters through the open space with the other hand,
This practice can lead to the fingers pushing the letterbox open getting stuck in the letterbox or being bitten by dogs or other animals behind tne door.
The use of a lettetbox opener should prevent the two above stated situations taking place. q'^ safety letterbox opener could be made of any material strong enough to push against the spring of the flap but for long wearing properties metal or plastic would probably be most suitable.
It should be of a thickness that would make it easily handled and reasonably light to carry.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of an example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which
Figure 1 shows the opener being pushed through the letterbox
Figure 2 shows the opener being turned to open the flap fully
Figure 3 shows the opener being withdrawn from the letterbox
The postmans fingers stay out of the letterbox at all times and this will pervent them getting stuck or bitten ( The use of the term postman is for descriptive purposes only and in its place
could be substituted postwoman or any other person required to open a
letterbox to deliver materials )
