Abstract
A food preparation board and tray made of a germicidal material designed to facilitate preparation and retention of food for transfer to other containers. It is reversible and easily stored.
Description
2331693 A food preparation -board and tray ('TRAY-BON') This invention is
a hygienic double-sided food preparation tray.
When food for humans or pets has been chopped or cut on a conventional chopping board it must be removed from the board to make way for the next batch. The board must be lifted to enable the food to be pushed into a bowl or another board and when chopping is completed, tipped or poured into its final container. The board, usually of wood or plastic, can easily harbour germs in its surface damaged by cutting and chopping. Smells and tastes may be conveyed from one food to another. Boards do not have rims and cannot hold liquids resulting from chopping and they provide no means of transferring it to a container.
In this invention the preparation board (1) and collecting tray (2) are moulded in one piece out of a hard plastic material incorporating a germicide. There are sloping grooves (3) moulded into the board to conduct liquids into the tray which is shaped to facilitate pouring and to contain the food prepared and any liquid, into a final container. 'Tray Bon' is reversible and may be easily stored.
One embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawing is described below:
Fig. 1 shows the invention in plan, with the preparation board (1) on the left and the collecting tray (2) on the right.
Fig2 illustrates 'Tray Bon' in section showing the sloping divider (4) between board and tray. The parabolic splayed rim forms the curved spout (5) for pouring at each end.
Fig 3 shows a side elevation Z The tapering lateral grooves (3) in the face of the board and the peripheral drainage channel (6) are shown in figure 1 and are repeated on the underside of the collection tray, which becomes the preparation board when 'Tray Bon ' is reversed. If desired a means of hanging for storage may be incorporated. Ideally the surface of the preparation board would have a matt finish, and the divider and tray section would be given a highly polished finish. The use of a plastic incorporating germicide will maintain a hygienic, germ free surface essential to food preparation. 'Tray Bon' could also be made in two identical sections joined by dovetail slots at the sloping divider.
A small cut-out may be incorporated at each end to facilitate lifting and handling and will also assist in pouring.
Claims (3)
- ClaimsAn oval reversible tray made of a cutting and abrasion-resistant material primarily, but not exclusively, intended for kitchen or laboratory use, for cutting, chopping, slicing or other forms of processing, or to assist in sorting, counting, or selecting small elements.
- 2 A tray as in Claim 1 above, with two levels so that upper and lower levels become interchangeable, and which has grooves in the upper surface and along its perimeter to aid drainage to the lower.
- 3 A tray as in Claims 1 and 2 above which has a raised outwardly inclined lip around the lower level, to facilitate transfer of the contents to another container.A tray as in Claims 1,2,and 3 above, but of any practical shape, which is symmetrical about its horizontal jateral, and transverse axes, preferably moulded in a germicidal plastic
