Abstract

A wall mounted book display frame has transparent flaps 2 which extend over the upper and lower edges of the book covers. Books are pressed into engagement with the flaps by a foam rubber cushioning 7 in the rear of the frame. The lower flaps pivot outward to allow insertion and removal of a book and can be held closed by engagement with three-quarter discs which rotate between positions 3,4 as shown. In position 4 each disc can also lock the flaps of an adjacent similar frame. The discs can be operated by a handle having protrusions which engage and release spring loaded locking studs which normally engage the discs to prevent their rotation (Fig 2).

Description

BOOK DISPLAY FRAME This invention relates to the displaying of books There are many designs of book display unit designed for libraries and book shops. This display frame is designed specifically for use in schools, most particularly in school classrooms (primary & secondary) and school hirares, where it is necessary to make maxinnirnuse ofbookjacket de to attract readership, and where a degree of security isr-re & The Book Display Frame enables books to be stored icing outwards ia a wall mounted flame which is extendible, optionally lockable, and may be set when assembled to different dimensions so that it mav hold various sizes of books
Books are secured by two transparent plastic or Perspex # flaps 2 Fig 112, one which is hinged and the other is fixed. Books are held in place against the flaps 2 by means of segn-ted triangular strips of fbam rubber 7, the broad base of the triangular strtp' strip of foam rubber being fixed to the hardboard backing 9 ofthe Book Display Frame. Alternatively small cones of foam rubber may serve the same purpose as the segented strips.
# The transparent plastic or Perspex#flaps 2 which are hinged enable books to be put into and removed from the Book Display Frame. The hinged flaps are secured in position fish to the Book Display Frame by means of optionally lockable three quarter discs which when in their open position 3 Fig 1/2 allow the flap to move outward thorough ninety degrees on its hinge. Wheu in its closed position 4 Fig 112 the three-quater discs hold in place two hinged flaps 2 if the unit is on its own, orfour hinged flaps 2 if the unit is extended.
The three-quater discs are lockable by means of sprung bearing studs 8 Fig 1/2 which may be depressed, allowing the disc to move, by means of a handle wiih corresponding studs which fits into the disc Fig 2/2. Alternatively the handle may be permanently attached to the disc rendering the disc unlockable.
The Book Display Frame is a piece of self-assembly apparatus made either of wood or man made materials such as moulded plastics or GRP: the frame is made rigid by two means: firstly by mortise & tenon and dowel joints and/or screw fastenings in each corner; secondly by its fixing to the wall, which is done either through prepared holes in the frame itself or by the use of angle brackets.
The Book Display Frame is extendible by means ofthe mortises 5 Fig 1/2 cut in the right hand side member ofthe frame. Additional frames would not have a left hmd side member.

Claims (1)

  1. Claims
Claim One A wallmunted Book Display Frame Fig ln which features hinged transparent plastic or
Perspwaps 2 Fig 112 that secure booles so that thdr covers may be viewed in their entirety face on. Books are hdd against the flaps by means ottbam rubber cushlonmg 7.
Flaps 2 are optionally lockable by means of a rotating three-quarter disc 3 locked by sprung bearing studs 8 which may be depressed by a handle with corresponding studs Fig 2/2. This handle may be fitted permanently or may be removable, providing by this means a key to lock and unlock the rotating threequarter discs. The frame is extendible by means of ready-cut mortises to house the tenons ofthe extended Book Display Frame assembly. The spaces between shelves may be set to accommodate different sizes of books when the Book Display Frame is assembled. The Book Display Frame is a selfassembly unit.
claim Two A frame made for any purpose which incorporates an optional locking device that operates by means of a three quaxter disc rotating on a sprung axle with holes cut in the disc to allow the entrance of sprung bearing studs housed in the frame to which the disc is attached Fig 2/2; the disc securing one to four hinged flaps which would otherwise be movable outwards through ninety degrees or more from the plane ofthe rotating disc Fig 112; the disc being movable by means of a handle with corresponding studs to those holes cut in the disc; the handle being either permanently fixed or removable thus rendering the rotating disc lockable by providing a key to move the rotating disc.
