Abstract
A device for displaying a non-rotating logo on a vehicle wheel comprises a weighted disc having a bush for running freely on a spindle in a housing. The housing may be mounted in the centre of a vehicle wheel, for example in a hub cap, by spring clips . A logo on the disc will retain its correct orientation regardless of whether the wheel is rotating or not.
Description
"STATIC WHEEL LOGO"
PICTURE (FOR EXAMPLE ONLY) THE LOGO IN THE CENTRE OF A BMW'S
ALLOY WHEEL. THE LOGO APPROXIMATELY 50 MM IN DIAMETER, ROTATES
WHEN EVER THE WHEEL ROTATES. THE IDEA OF THE "STATIC WHEEL LOGO"
IS THAT AS THE WHEEL ROTATES THE LOGO REMAINS HORIZONTAL AND
STATIC, THUS THE LOGO ON ALL FOUR WHEELS REMAIN THE RIGHT WAY UP
AND SO ENHANCES THE LOOKS OF THE (MORE PRESTIGE) CAR.
THE BASIC DESIGN OF THE "STATIC WHEEL LOGO" WILL BE THE SAME FOR
ANY MAKE OF CAR (BAR SIZE AND ACTUAL LOGO) USING ALLOY WHEELS
WITH A CENTRE LOGO. ALSO THE "STATIC WHEEL LOGO" COULD BE
INCORPORATED IN TO THE HUBCAPS OF CARS USING STEEL WHEELS.
THE MAIN AIM IS THAT THE LOGOS REMAIN IN A HORIZONTAL POSITION
WHEN THE CAR IS AT A STANDSTILL, BUT THE LOGO COULD ALSO STAY
HORIZONTAL AT SPEEDS, YET UNKNOWN UNTIL A PROTOTYPE IS MADE.

TO BE MADE OF SUITABLE MATERIALS SO THAT THE FREE RUNNING OF THE
BUSH ON THE SPINDLE IS NOT AFFECTED BY HEAT AND CLIMATE CHANGES
AND IS TO BE MADE OF A SELF LUBRICATING MATERIAL.

TO BE MADE OF SUITABLE MATERIAL SO AS TO BE HEAVY ENOUGH TO
REMAIN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE UNIT EVEN WHEN THE UNIT IS BEING
ROTATED AT RELATIVELY HIGH R.P.M. BUT AT THE SAME TIME NOT OVERLY
HEAVY AS TO CREATE MUCH FRICTION AND THUS DRAG ON THE SPINDLE
AND BUSH.
STATIC LOGO - FIG 2
TO BE MADE OF LIGHTWEIGHT MATERIAL STRONG ENOUGH TO RECEIVE
LOGO MATERIAL AND STRONG ENOUGH TO RESIST SHOCKS ASSOCIATED
WITH A WHEEL ON THE ROAD.
HOUSING - FIG 2
TO BE MADE OF SUITABLE MATERIAL RELATIVELY SHOCKPROOF AND
ROBUST BUT NOT TOO BULKY. EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION MUST BE
MINIMAL EVEN WHEN SUBJECTED TO HEAT CHANGES THAT MAY OCCUR ON
A WHEEL, ESPECIALLY A FRONT WHEEL. MUST ALSO BE ABLE TO
WITHSTAND CHANGES IN WEATHER AND CLIMATE HOME AND ABROAD.
LIMITING NIB - FIG 2
PROBABLY OF THE SAME MATERIAL AS THE THE BUSH, MAY IN
CONSTRUCTION BE BUILT AS PART OR ALL OF THE FIXING METHOD OF THE
BUSH TO THE LOGO PLATE. THE NIB IS TO KEEP THE FACE OF THE LOGO OFF
THE INSIDE FACE OF THE FACIA SO AS TO LIMIT DAMAGE OF LOGO AND LIMIT
FRICTION.
FACIA - FIG 2 TO BE MADE OF SUBSTANTIALLY STRONG AND CLEAR MATERIAL ABLE TO
WITH STAND KNOCKS E.G. STONE CHIPS AND TO BE SCRATCH RESISTANT.
FACIA TO BE GLUED TO HOUSING THUS MAKING A SEALED, SELF CONTAINED,
NON MAINTAINABLE AND SELF LUBRICATING UNIT.
RETAINING SPRING CLIPS - FIG 3
TO BE OF QUITE ROBUST DESIGN. MUST BE MADE SO THAT ONCE THE UNIT
HAS BEEN FITTED INTO THE CENTRE OF THE WHEEL FROM THE OUTSIDE THE
UNIT CAN ONLY BE RELEASED FROM THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL. THIS MAY
MINIMALISE ACCIDENTAL LOSS AND OR THEFT.
Claims (4)
1. A STATIC WHEEL LOGO CAN BE FITTED SECURELY INTO ANY CAR
WHEEL CENTRE WHEN MADE TO THAT (CARS AND MODEL ) WHEELS
SPECIFIC SIZE OF APERTURE.
2. A STATIC WHEEL LOGO AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 1 WILL CONTAIN A LOGO
THAT WILL REST IN A HORIZONTAL POSITION WHEN THE WHEEL TO
WHICH SAID STATIC WHEEL LOGO IS FITTED IS STATIONARY.
3. A STATIC WHEEL LOGO AS CLAIMED IN CLAIMS 1 AND 2 WILL CONTAIN
A LOGO AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 2 THAT WILL REMAIN IN A HORIZONTAL
POSITION WHILST THE WHEEL TO WHICH SAID STATIC WHEEL LOGO IS
FITTED IS ROTATING AT AN R.P.M. EQUIVALENT TO A SPEED OF
APPROXIMATELY 30 M.P.H.
4. A STATIC WHEEL LOGO SUBSTANTIALLY AS HEREIN DESCRIBED AND
ILLUSTRATED IN THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS.
