Abstract

Grates. - In a travelling grate provided with links engaging with their pivotal supports by means of openended slots, the links are held in position by locking-bars engaging with key-hole slots in the links and capable of limited rotary, longitudinal or lateral motion to release the links from or lock them to their pivotal supports. Fig. 1 shows links 6 mounted on pivotal supports 1, 2 and provided with key-hole slots 15 in which the rotatable locking-bar 5 is arranged. The side clamping-links 8 shown in Fig. 2, are provided with holes 4 and slots 3 to engage with the pivotal supports and a wedge piece 9 for holding the locking-bar in position. The intermediate driving-links are provided with circular holes through which pass the locking-bars. Fig. 5 shows a modified form of link 6 with air ports in the sides and with the rotatable locking-bar 5 serving as one of the pivotal supports. Side clamping-links 8, Fig. 8, and intermediate driving-links, Fig. 9, engage with the locking-bar as shown. Fig. 11 shows the locking-bar 5 provided in connection with a link having inclined air passages 13 and serrated air spaces 14. Figs. 17, 18, and 19 show respectively intermediate links, a clamping-link and an intermediate driving-link in which the locking-bar 17 ia displaced laterally in a slot in the links to release or lock them. The side driving-links are provided with circular holes to engage with the pivotal supports and do not engage with the locking-bar. Grooves 25, Fig. 19, may be provided in the intermediate or side driving-links to permit the escape of ash or dust entering the spaces between the links. In the modification shown in Figs. 21 and 22, the locking-bar 26 is adapted for longitudinal movement and is provided with notches and teeth 27 to engage with the slots 28 in the links 29.
