Abstract

Exercise apparatus comprises a seat 10 to which is attached a frame 11 and, mounted pivotally on the frame, a bar 14 bearing foot and/or hand grips 15. The exercise load is provided by elastic springs 18 which are mountable between the distal end of the bar and one of a plurality of positions on the frame. The seat may be placed directly on the floor or placed on an existing chair.

Description

POBTAB1 EXERCISE APPARATUS This invention relates to Portable Exercise Apparatus.
Exercise machines and apparatus are very popular and are in common use. It is true to say that there are many such portable devices on the market - rowing machines are probably the favourite.
This new invention allows the user to exercise all major body muscles whilst lying down or in the sitting position. It is possible to we the device whilst sitting down for long periods whilst at work, for enmple by a telephonist or computer operator.
A brief description will now follow: FIGURE 1: Side elevation This view shows the apparatus being used to exercise the upper limbs, whilst in a sitting position, on a standard chair.
FIGURE 2: Side elevation This view shows the apparatus being used to exercise the lower limbs, whilst in a sitting position, on a standard chair.
FIGURE 3: Side elevation This view shows the apparatus being used to exercise the upper limbs whilst in a lying position.
FIGURE 4: Side elevation This view shows the apparatus being used to exercise the upper limbs 'rowing style' whilst in a sitting position.
FIGURE 5: Side elevation This view shows the apparatus being used to exercise the lower limbs, whilst in a lying position.
with regard to the isometric drawings FIGURE 6 and FIGURE 7: the portable exerciser comprises a padded seat (10), a fixed metal chassislfiune (11), two extension arms permanently fixed to the chassislframe (12), a T-section (14) which incorporates hand and foot grips (15), a hinge joint (16), a thumb screw (17) which allows adjustment in length and also allows the T-section to be removed for packaging purposes.
The tension is provided by two springs or bungee ropes (18), both will work equally well and can be fitted with stronger or weaker springs/ropes depending on the amount of tension required for the individual wishing to exercise.
This exercise can easily be fitted with many other tension devices, for example gas strut, hydraulic and pneumatic, however this would prove to be far more expensive to produce.

Claims (10)

CLMMS
1. A portable exercise machine, comprising a padded seat to which is attached a chassis/finme from which two arms extend to provide means or fixing the tension springs. A hinge joint and spiggot provide the means to secure an adjustable T section which incorporate hand and foot grips. The Section also provides means Or securing the tension springs.
2. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 1, wherein a chassis/fnme is secured to a padded seat.
3. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2, wherein the chassis has a series of holes in which to secure one end of the tension springs.
4. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 3, wherein the chassis/flame has two extended arms Or the purpose of securing one end of the tension springs by way of a series of holes. The holes also provide Or adjustment in tension.
5. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 3 and Claim 4, wherein the chassis/frame has a built in hinged joint and spiggot to provide independent movement to the chassis/flame.
6. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 5, wherein the spiggot provides the means to attach the T-section to the main chassis/fiame.
7. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 6, where the T-section can slide up and down the spiggot Or variable length.
8. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 7, wherein the adjustable T section is held in the desired position by way of a thumb-screw which, when tightened is pressed against the inner spiggot.
9. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 6, Claim 7 and Claim 8, wherein the crossbar of the T-section provides the means in which one end of the springs can be secured by way of hooks. The crossbar also incorporates comfort grips Or hands and feet.
10. A portable exercise machine ad described herein with reference to Figures 6 and 7 of the accompanying drawings.
10. A portable exercise machine ad described herein with reference to Figures 6 and 7 of the accompanying drawings.
CLAIMS Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1. A portable exercise machine, comprising a padded seat as to be stably locatable on the Seat of a chair to which is attached a chassis/frame from which two arms extend to provide means for securing the tension springs, a hinge joint and spiggot provide the means to secure an adjustable T- section which incorporates hand and foot grips; said T-section also providing means for securing the tension springs.
a. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the padded seat is of a size and shape giving the means as to be locatable on a standard office or domestic chair or settee.
b. A portable exercise machine wherein the base of the seat is planar and nothing protrudes beyond the seat base as shown in Figure 1. Allowing the apparatus to be used on a standard chair as shown in Figures 1 and 2. Wherein the seat, chassis and extended arms are on the same level as shown in Figures 3, 4 and 5, thereby allowing the apparatus to be used directly on the floor or a flat based area, ie a bed, therefore, eliminating the need for a subframe/structure or support legs as is associated with such apparatus of this nature. Wherein the user can lay on a bed or floor with only their head or legs resting on the apparatus as shown in Figures 3 and 5, depending on the exercise being performed.
2. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 1, wherein a chassis/frame is secured to a padded seat.
3. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2, wherein the chassis has series of holes in which to secure one end of the tension springs.
4. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 3, wherein the chassis/frame has two extended arms for the purpose of securing one end of the tension springs by way of a series of holes. The holes also provide for adjustment in tension.
5. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 3 and Claim 4, wherein the chassis/frame has a built in hinged joint and spiggot to provide independent movement to the chassis/frame.
6. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 5, wherein the spiggot provides the means to attach the T-section to the main chassis/frame.
7. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 6, where the T-section can slide up and down the spiggot for variable length.
8. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 7, wherein the adjustable Tsection is held in the desired position by way of a thumb-screw which, when tightened is pressed against the inner spiggot.
9. A portable exercise machine as claimed in Claim 6, Claim 7 and Claim 8, wherein the crossbar of the T-section provides the means in which one end of the springs can be secured by way of hooks. The cross-bar also incorporates comfort grips for hands and feet.
