Abstract

An exercise bench which consists of the main base (1) has two fixed pairs of legs which have pivots (7) allowing the machine to fold flat, a moving arm (2) fixed to the main base which also pivots (6) allowing backward and forward movements allowing a low back and abdominal exercise to be performed on a single machine, and a resistance provided by springs which hook on to the moving arm and base. The resistance is made variable by the addition or subtraction of springs. <IMAGE>

Description

PORTABLE FOLDAWAY LOW BACK/ABDOMINAL EXERCISE MACHINE This invention relates to a portable foldaway low back/abdominal exercise machine.
Low back machines and abdominal machines are, at present, single station machines which are very large and expensive made primarily for Health Clubs and gymnasiums.
According to the present invention there is provided a portable foldaway dual purpose low back/abdominal exercise machine which provides a sturdy bench type seat with pivoted legs at front and rear allowing the framework to fold flat.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig 1 Shows the exerciser in its upstanding position Fig 2 Shows the start position of low back exercise Fig 3 Shows finishing position of low back exercise Fig 4 Shows start position of abdominal exercise Fig 5 Shows finishing position of abdominal exercise Fig 6 Shows machine with legs and moving arm folded flat Referring to the drawings - the machine comprises main base (1) [Fig 1], a moving arm (2) [Fig 1], legs which are fixed in pairs (3) [Fig 1] and (4) [Fig 1], springs (5) [Fig 1] which supply resistance.
In order to do low back exercise a body must sit on base with moving arm at one's back [Fig 2). A backward movement against the resistance of spring (5) [Fig 1) to finishing position [Fig 3].
In order to do abdominal exercise a body must sit on base with moving arm to one's chest [Fig 4] with a forward movement against the resistance of springs to finishing position [Fig 5].
In order to fold away machine unclip springs (5) [Fig 1], from loops (8) [Fig 6] on base and loops (9) [Fig 6) on moving arm. Fold moving arm as arrow [Fig 1] then fold legs (4) [Fig 1] then fold legs (3) [Fig 1].
The machine is now flat [Fig 6].
To return machine to upstanding position the steps described in the paragraph above are carried out in the reverse order.

Claims (3)

1. A portable foldaway low back/abdominal machine comprising a main base with two pairs of legs pivoted about the base providing a sturdy seat to perform the aforesaid exercises; a moving arm to which springs are attached when the machine is upstanding to provide the resistance.
2. A portable foldaway low back/abdominal machine as in claim (1) where resistance is provided by means other than springs.
3. A portable foldaway low back/abdominal machine as in claim (1) and (2) with legs that are fixed after assembly.
3. A portable foldaway low back/abdominal machine as in claim (1) and (2) with legs that are fixed after assembly.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1. A portable foldaway dual purpose low back/abdominal machine comprising a main base with two pairs of legs pivoted about the base providing a sturdy seat to perform the aforesaid exercises from the normal seated position. There is also a moving arm to which springs are attached to provide a selectable and variable resistance when the machine is upstanding.
2. A portable foldaway low back/abdominal machine as in claim (1) where resistance is provided by means other than springs.
