Abstract

A valve spring compressor has a main body 10 comprising a split cylinder with claws 13 at the base and having an external thread on the upper portions. In addition the compressor has a bush 11 and a threaded nut 12. In use the body is placed over the spring 14 to be compressed such that the claws engage beneath the lower coils of the spring. The bush is placed above the spring and the nut is then threaded onto the body and tightened to compress the spring to enable the collets to be removed. The spring and valve stem seals can then be removed in order for the seals to be replaced.

Description

HEAD ON VALVE SPRING COMPRESSOR.
This invention relates to a head on valve spring compressor.
Valve spring compressor are widely used in the motor trade. They are of different shapes and sizes. Normally one end we call the anchor point this is located on the valve head. The other end, probably consisting of a threaded bar, this is located on the valve spring. Then the valve spring is compressed so as to remove the split collets, spring and seals.
However, to perform this task the cylinder head has to be removed from the engine block.
According to the present invention. To change the valve stem seals, it is no longer necessary to remove the cylinder head from the block.
Referring to the drawingS Insert half of the split body,(10) which is threaded on the outside, onto the valve spring(l4) with the claw(l3) under the spring. Then you insert the other half of the body(l0) onto the valve spring(14). Once in position place the bush(ll) on top of the valve spring(14). Bring down the nut(l2), engage the thread on the outside of the split body(10) and screw down the nut(12). This will force the bush(ll) into the body(l0) and so compress the valve spring(14) inside the body(10). Once the spring is compressed, remove the split collets from the valve assembly. You can now remove the spring(14) which will stay inside the compressor body(10).
Fit new seal and reverse procedure.

Claims (1)

1) A head on valve spring compressor,comprising of a split body with claws on the bottom a bush and a compression nut,has the means to compress the valve spring so as to remove the split collets spring and seal without removing the cylinder head from the engine block.
2)A head on valve spring compressor,as claimed in claim 1,buy applying pressure from above and below the valve spring simultaneously compressing the spring to remove the split collets.
3)A head on valve spring compressor,as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 has the means to change the valve stem seals without removing the cylinder head from the engine block.
