Each end of each tubular component 20 has a number of side cuts (5) to facilitate the receipt of each end in a respective void (2) of the platform.
Description
A LIGHTING ARRANGEMENT
The present invention relates to a lighting arrangement, for example, for use in homes, commercial premises and offices.
Various modular lighting arrangements have been proposed.
One of the arrangements is based on the gripping of low voltage cables the lighting socket or terminal.
The said cables couple directly with a transformer which is connected to the mains supply.
Another type of modular lighting arrangement uses standard 20 V or 125 V current in its absence. In such cases the cable is covered by means of a tubular component which avoids the occurrence of accidents or short-circuits, and the lighting as such is effected by way of a light socket or terminal located in a plafform, which joins the tubular components by way of various anchoring means, such as clamps, and pass-screws.
These types of arrangement have the advantage of being adaptable to whatsoever type of surfaces, as they consist of various modules, which may be lengthened or shortened depending on the needs of the location.
A problem arising with these modular lighting arrangements is that the said anchoring means are awkward to install.
The said system is not suitable for knock-down sale, owing to the complicated engaging.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a lighting arrangement which reduces the problems discussed.
According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a lighting arrangement comprising a plafform for carrying a bulb socket and/or a light fitting, and a socket cover casing, the plafform having a peripheral wall in which a number of lateral voids are defined, and a number of tubular components for connecting the lighting arrangement extemally thereof, an end of each tubular component being receivable within a respective lateral void, wherein the socket cover casing is connectable to said plafform to retain the ends of the tubular components in said voids.
In an embodiment, said socket cover casing has windows formed therein, each of said windows being arranged to align with a respective one of said voids whereby an orifice for surrounding an associated end of a said tubular component is defined.
Preferably, each said tubular component is arranged to encase a respective electric cable.
Preferably, cooperating fixing means are provided on said peripheral wall of the platform and on said casing for connecting the casing to the plafform.
The present invention also extends to a modular lighting arrangement which comprises a plafform into which is inserted a light bulb socket or terminal, a number of connecting components and a socket-cover casing.
The plafform has on its lower face a geometrically configurated peripheral wall, which has two voids on each side.
At the same time, this peripheral wall may assume different geometric shapes, these possibly being hexagonal, square etc.
Equally, at the centre of the said lower face of the plafform, a seat may be provided for fitting the bulb socket or the lighting terminal, at the same time showing on either side of the side a number of holes for fitting to the roof or the wall, and at the centre of the side walls further holes to secure the socket cover casing.
High voltage cables are installed between tubular components, which connect to the plafforms of the sockets. These tubular components have a number of facing incisions at their end, by means of which they fit into the side voids of the plafform, since they reduce the diameter of the tube to the size of the void.
The socket cover casing has a number of small windows located two by two, which face the voids in which the tubular components are located.
Between these windows, a number of small orifices are made, which in turn perfectly encase the orifices located between the walls and which secure the casing to the plafform preventing the tubes from escaping from the voids in the plafform.
The tubular component is basically straight but optionally they are able to assume a curved configuration which allow them to adapt to whatsoever wall or roof.
One of the advantages presented by a lighting means of the invention arises from the anchoring mechanism which is achieved by simple pressure, simplifying their installation, which is concealed beneath the socket cover casing.
At the same time, a reduction is achieved in the sales cost of the arrangement by providing a smaller number of component parts.
Embodiments of the present invention will hereinafter be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a modular lighting arrangement of an embodiment of the invention, and
Figure 2 shows an assembly diagram of a number of modular lighting arrangements of Figure 1.
A modular lighting arrangement of an embodiment of the invention has a platform 10 into which is inserted a socket 12 for the bulb (not shown). The plafform 10 is also arranged to carry a number of tubular components 20 and a socket cover casing 14.
The plafform 10 has on its lower face a geometrically configurated peripheral wall 1, having two voids 2 each side.
At the centre of the said lower face of the platform 10, a seat is provided for fitting the bulb socket or an end lighting component. A number of holes 3 are defined on both sides of the seat for securing the plafform 10 to a roof, or a wall or other structure. At the centre of the side wall 1 further holes 4 are provided for securing the socket cover housing 14.
High voltage cables extend along the tubular components 2 on the platform 10. These cables 20 may be used to interconnect a number of plafforms as 10 as shown in Figure 2. The cables 20 each have at their ends a number of side cuts 5. The side cuts 5 enable the end of a respective cable 20 to be engaged in a corresponding side void 2 of the platform, since these reduce the tube diameter to the size of the void 2.
The socket cover housing 14 has a number of small apertures 6 arranged in pairs, which face the voids 2 where the tubular components 20 are located.
Between these windows 6, a number of small holes 7 are made, which simultaneously encase the holes situated between the walls and secure the housing 14 to the plafform 10 thereby preventing the escape of the tubular components 20 from the voids 2 in the plafform 10.
It will be appreciated that variations in and modifications to the embodiments described and illustrated may be made within the scope of the attached claims.
