Abstract
A hole saw for coconut shells comprises a hollow cylindrical cutter B having teeth at a lower end and a T-shaped handle at an upper end. The cutter is rotated using the handle to make a hole in the shell which results in a plug of cut material resting in the end of the cutter. The cutter is removed from the shell and a plunger A is slid inside the cutter to force the plug out of the bottom. The cutter can then be replaced in the coconut shell to enable the milk to be poured via the cutter tube. The plunger can be placed in the cutter tube to preserve the flesh of the coconut by preventing any air from entering.
Description
Coconut Milk Extractor
This invention relates to a Coconut Milk Extractor, which cuts the flesh of the coconut through the embryo for the milky fluid to then be extracted. The same invention can be used to close the cut out hole for preserving the coconuts inner flesh.
Coconuts are difficult to open and need to be hit or cracked firmly. If the milky fluid is not extracted first, then the liquid will spill out being wasted and causing a mess. At the base ofthe fruit there are three round marks, which correspond to the three chambers ofthe ovary, and under one of which lies the embryo. The embryo is the softest to break into and where the milky fluid is extracted. A sharp object such as a knife is usually used, however it is easy to cut oneself. The cut out core or flesh usually falls inside, mixing with the coconuts milky fluid and sometimes making it dirty. Then when the coconut is turned upside down to extract the fluid it tends to obstruct the passage made for the fluid to pass through. Shaking the coconut is then usually required to release the obstruction, which can end up very messy with the milky fluid spurting out all over the place.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple clean way of extracting the coconuts milky fluid, before breaking open the whole coconut. This invention is made from two parts the 'cutter' and the 'plunge?. The cutter is made to be able to fit into the embryo and used to cut into the coconuts inner core until a hole is formed, by the teeth at the end of the tube which are positioned all the way around. The cutters finger-grip prevents the coconut extractor from falling inside, as it is wider than the tube, so it can rest on the outside ofthe coconut. The cutter is then removed and the core or flesh of the coconut is held inside the cutter. To remove the coconut flesh from the cutter, the plunger is placed into the cutter and the flesh pushed or plunged out. The plungers finger-grip which is wider than the plunger part, prevents it from going in to far into the cutter acting as a stopper. The coconuts milky fluid can then be extracted by replacing the cutter into the cut out hole and the coconut turned upside down, where the fluid can pass through the cutters tube into a container. The cutters finger-grip can be held against the outside ofthe coconut to prevent it from falling and any fluid from seeping out. When the cutter is placed into the hole and the plunger is placed inside the cutter, the plunger covers and closes the hole inside the cutter preventing any air from entering, so preserving the coconuts inner flesh.
According to the present invention there is provided a coconut milk extractor, which is one device made from two separate parts, the cutter comprising a diameter tube with teeth at one end for cutting, at the opposite end there is a finger-grip to enable the operating cutting action, the plunger is a solid diameter which, fits inside the cutter tube and is slightly longer, so that excess coconut material can be pushed out, the plunger has a finger-grip at one end.
Preferably the coconut milk extractor is made of plastic material, but it may instead be made from wood or metal or any other suitable material.
A specific embodiment ofthe invention will now be described by way ofexample with reference to the accompanying drawings which:
Figure 1 A- Shows the plunger inside the cutter
B- Shows the cutter
Figure 2 A- Illustrates the plunger
B- Illustrates the cutter
C- Illustrates the front top view ofthe plungers finger-grip which is closed
D- Illustrates the front top view ofthe cutters finger-grip which is open
Figure 3 B- Shows the cutter inside the coconut cutting the flesh to form a hole
E- Shows the coconuts inner flesh
F- Shows the outside ofthe coconut
G- Shows the coconuts milky fluid
Figure 4 A- Illustrates the cutter and finger-grip
E- Illustrates the cutter with the cut out coconut flesh
Figure 5 A- Shows the plunger inside the cutter plunging out the coconut flesh
B- Shows the cutter with the coconut flesh being plunged out
E- Shows the coconut flesh
Referring to the drawings the coconut milk extractor comprises a plunger (Fig 2A). and a cutter (Fig 2B). The cutter is put onto the coconuts embryo and the core cut through to form a hole (Fig 3B), where the coconut flesh is held inside the cutter. The cutter is then removed with the coconut flesh inside (Fig 4E) and the plunger is then placed inside the cutter and the coconut flesh pushed out (Fig 5). The coconuts milky fluid can then be extracted by placing the cutter back into the hole and the coconut turned upside down, where the milky fluid can pass through into a container. The plunger can then be placed into the cutter (Fig 1), inside the hole to prevent any air from entering so preserving the coconuts inner flesh for later use.
Claims (9)
1. A coconut milk extractor which is one device made from two parts, the cutter comprising a diameter tube with teeth at one end for cutting, at the opposite end attached to the tube there is a finger-grip to enable the operating cutting action, the plunger is a solid diameter which fits inside the cutter tube and is slightly longer in length so that excess coconut material can be pushed out, there is a finger-grip at one end.
2. A coconut milk extractor as claimed in claim 1 wherein the cutters finger-grip has an opening sothat the tube is not closed and the fluid can pass through.
3. A coconut milk extractor as claimed in claim 1 and 2 wherein the cutters teeth are positioned at one end all the way around.
4. A coconut milk extractor as claimed in claim 1 wherein the plunger being a solid diameter once placed inside the cutter, closes and covers the cutters hole.
5. A coconut milk extractor as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the cutters tube is able to hold and retain the cut out flesh.
6. A coconut milk extractor as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the cutters finger-grip prevents the extractor from falling inside the coconut as it is wider than the tube and can rest outside the coconut acting as a stopper.
7. A coconut milk extractor as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the plungers finger-grip, which is wider than the plunger part, prevents the plunger from going to far into the cutters tube and acts as a stopper.
8. A coconut milk extractor as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the cutters finger-grip prevents the cutter from falling out ofthe coconut or any liquid loss, when turned upside down.
9. A coconut milk extractor substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
