Description
LEG EXERCISER
This invention relates to a leg exerciser, more particularly to a foldable leg exerciser.
Referring to Figure 1, a conventional leg exerciser is shown to comprise a frame unit 1, a spaced pair of walking units 2 and a resistance adjusting unit 3. The frame unit 1 includes a rear U-shaped support frame 11 having a handle member 12 connected fixedly to upper end portions thereof, and a front U-shaped support frame 13 having two upper end portions which are connected pivotably to two connecting plates 14 that are fixed respectively to two arm members of the rear
U-shaped support frame 11. The frame unit 1 further includes two bracing rods 15 in order to position the front and rear U-shaped support frames 13 and 11 when the front and rear U-shaped support frames 13 and 11 are unfolded, as best illustrated in Figure 1. Each of the bracing rods 15 is connected pivotably to an intermediate section of a respective one of the arm members of the front U-shaped support frame 13 at one end thereof and engages removably a through hole 111 in an intermediate section of a respective one of the arm members of the rear U-shaped support frame 11 at the other end thereof. The walking unit 2 has two pairs of swing arms 22 and two pedals 21 which are connected respectively to the lower end portions of the swing arms 22. The upper end portions of each pair of the swing arms 22 are connected pivotably to a respective one of the connecting plates 14. The resistance adjusting unit 3 has two rotary buttons 31 which are connected to the upper end portions of a respective one of the swing arms 22 in order to adjust the resistance against the movement of the walking unit 2 by means of rotating the rotary buttons 31.
Although the conventional leg exerciser may be folded by disengaging the other ends of the bracing rods 15 from the through holes 111 in the rear U-shaped support frame 11 and rotating the front and rear Ushaped support frame 13 and 11 toward one another, the folded conventional leg exerciser is still bulky, as best illustrated in Figure 2, thereby resulting in difficulty during transport and storage of the conventional leg exerciser.
The object of the present invention is to provide a leg exerciser which is more compact when folded as compared to the conventional leg exerciser.
According to the present invention, a leg exerciser comprises:
front and rear U-shaped support frames, each of the front and rear U-shaped support frames having a spaced pair of arm members, the arm members of the front and rear U-shaped support frames being connected pivotably at upper sections thereof about two pivot shafts, the arm members of the rear U-shaped support frame being located inside and aligned with the arm members of the front U-shaped support frame when the front and rear Ushaped support frames are folded;
a spaced pair of walking units having two swing arms and two pedals, each of the swing arms having an upper end portion which is connected pivotably inside a respective one of the upper sections of the rear Ushaped support frame about a corresponding one of the pivot shafts and a lower end portion which is connected a respective one of the pedals;
a pair of bracing members, each having an elongated connecting plate and first and second locking bolt units, the connecting plate of each of the bracing members having a first end, a second end and a slide slot extending lengthwise between the first and second ends thereof, each of the first locking bolt units extending through and interconnecting pivotably a respective one of the first ends of the connecting plates and an intermediate section of a respective one of the arm members of the rear U-shaped support frame, each of the second locking bolt units extending through a respective one of the slide slots adjacent to the second end of a corresponding one of the connecting plates and an intermediate section of a respective one of the arm members of the front U-shaped support frame in order to lock releaseably the front U-shaped support frame relative to the rear U-shaped support frame when the front and rear U-shaped support frames are unfolded; and
an inverted U-shaped handle member having two locking pins and two lower end portions, each of the lower end portions of the handle member being connected pivotably between a respective one of the upper sections of the rear U-shaped support frame and a respective one of the upper sections of the front Ushaped support frame about a respective one of the pivot shafts, each of the locking pins extending removably through a respective one of the lower end portions of the handle member and the respective one of the upper sections of the rear U-shaped support frame in order to prevent rotation of the handle member relative to the rear U-shaped support frame.

Figure 9 is a perspective view of the preferred embodiment of the leg exerciser in a folded position; and
Figure 10 is a side view of the preferred embodiment of Figure 9.
Referring to Figures 3 and 4, a preferred embodiment of a leg exerciser according to the present invention is shown to comprise a front U-shaped support frame 40, a rear U-shaped support frame 50, an inverted
U-shaped handle member 60, a spaced pair of walking units 70 and a pair of bracing members 80.
The front U-shaped support frame 40 includes a spaced pair of arm members 401, each of which has a sleeve 41 extending transversely through and connected to an upper section thereof and a through hole 42 formed at an intermediate section thereof.
The rear U-shaped support frame 50 includes a spaced pair of arm members 501, each of which has a sleeve 51 extending transversely through and connected to an upper section thereof and a through hole 53 formed at an intermediate section thereof. Each of the upper sections of the rear U-shaped support frame 50 has two angularly equidistant positioning holes 52 with respect to the sleeve 51 of a respective one of the arm members 501. The size of the rear U-shaped support frame 50 is smaller than that of the front U-shaped support frame 40 so that, when the sleeves 51, 41 are aligned with one another, the arm members 501 of the rear U-shaped support frame 50 may be located inside and aligned with the arm members 401 of the front Ushaped support frame 40, as best illustrated in Figure 9.
The handle member 60 has two lower portions which are formed with a respective transverse sleeve 61 and a respective through hole 62 adjacent to the transverse sleeve 61. The distance between the lower portions of the handle member 60 is smaller than that between the upper sections of the front U-shaped support frame 40 and greater than that between the upper sections of the rear U-shaped support frame 50.
The walking units 70 includes two L-shaped swing arms 701 and two pedals 71. Each of the swing arms 701 has an upper end portion which is formed with a through hole 72 and a lower end portion which is connected to a respective one of the pedals 71.
With reference to Figures 3 and 5, the upper end portion of each swing arm 701 has a pivot shaft 73 with one end inserted into and welded to a respective one of the through holes 72. The other end of the pivot shaft 73 is formed with an threaded hole 76 and extends through the sleeve 51 with two bushing members 511 connected at two ends thereof of a respective one of the arm members 501, the sleeve 61 of a respective one of the lower end portions of the handle member 60, the sleeve 41 with two bushing members 411 connected at two ends thereof of a respective one of the arm members 401, a washer 75 and engages threadedly a screw member 74 in such a manner that the front and rear U-shaped support frames 40 and 50, the handle member 60 and the walking units 70 can be rotated with one another. The handle member 60 has two locking pins 63 for preventing rotation of the handle member 60 with respect to the rear U-shaped support frame 50. Each of the locking pins 63 extends through the through hole 62 of a respective one of the lower portions of the handle member 60 into one of the positioning holes 52 of a corresponding one of the arm members 501 of the rear Ushaped support frame 50 in order to position the handle member 60 above the rear U-shaped support frame 50 at different angles relative to the arm members 501 of the rear U-shaped support frame 50, as shown by the phantom lines in Figure 7.
Referring to Figures 3 and 6, each of the bracing members 80 has an elongated connecting plate 81 and first and second locking bolt units 84. The connecting plate 81 of each of the bracing members 80 has a first end with a through hole 82, a second end and a slide slot 83 extending lengthwise between the first and second ends thereof. Each of the first locking bolt units 84 has a pivot pin 842 which extends through the through hole 53 of a respective one of the arm members 501 of the rear U-shaped support frame 50, a plastic sleeve 843 and the through hole 82 of a respective one of the connecting plates 81 in such a manner that an enlarged first end 841 of the pivot pin 842 abuts the respective one of the arm members 501 while a second end with a threaded hole 846 extends through a washer 845 and engages a screw member 844. Therefore, the first ends of the connecting plates 81 can be connected pivotably to the intermediate sections of the arm members 501 of the rear U-shaped support frame 50.
Similarly, each of the second locking bolt units 84 has a pivot pin 842 which extends through the through hole 42 of a respective one of the arm members 401 of the front U-shaped support frame 40, a plastic sleeve 843 and the slide slot 83 of a respective one of the connecting plates 81 in such a manner that an enlarged first end 841 of the pivot pin 842 abuts the respective one of the arm members 401 while a second end with a threaded hole 846 extends through a washer 845 and engages a screw member 844. Therefore, the second ends of the connecting plates 81 can be positioned to the arm members 401 of the front U-shaped support frame 40 by, thereby locking the front U-shaped support frame 40 relative to the rear U-shaped support frame 50 when the front and rear U-shaped support frames 40, 50 are unfolded, as best illustrated in Figure 7.
When the leg exerciser is to be folded, the screw members 844 for locking the front and rear U-shaped frames 40, 50 are released so that the associated pivot pins 842 can slide from the front ends 831 to the rear ends 832 of the slide slots 83 when the front and rear
U-shaped support frames 40, 50 are moved toward one another, as best illustrated in Figure 8. The handle member 60 may be folded to abut against the front Ushaped support member 40 by removing the locking pins 63 from the through holes 62, 52. Therefore, the leg exerciser can be folded quickly and conveniently, as best illustrated in Figures 9 and 10. It is noted that the front and rear U-shaped support frames 40 and 50 and the L-shaped swing arms 701 of the walking units 70 are on the same plane when the leg exerciser is folded.
Furthermore, the handle member 60 may abut against the front U-shaped support member 40. The leg exerciser is thus compact when folded, thereby resulting in convenience transporting and storing the leg exerciser.
