Abstract
In a Garchey waste disposal system the outer bowl (2) and the waste tube (20) are made of aluminium to provide increased lifetime of the parts.
Description
Waste DisDosal Svstem
The present invention relates to Garchey (Registered Trade Mark) waste disposal systems. Such systems are described in GB-A-963510 and
GB-A-1382913, for example.
Several of the parts of the Garchey waste disposal system, such as the outer bowl and the central waste tube are made of plastics material.
These parts, particularly the outer bowl, are difficult to maintain and frequently must be replaced by a new part. The plastics outer bowl is formed of two parts which are stuck together, and the bowl often leaks at the resultant joint.
We have realised that by forming these parts of metal, particularly aluminium, the parts are much more resistant to damage and the anticipated life time of the part outweighs the increased material cost.
A first aspect of the invention provides an outer bowl for a Garchey waste disposal system. in which the bowl is formed of metal. More particularly, the bowl is of aluminium. Preferably the bowl is cast from aluminium.
A second aspect of the invention provides a waste tube for a Garchey waste disposal system. in which the tube is formed substantially of metal.
More particularly the tube is of aluminium.
A third aspect of the invention provides a storage and disposal unit for a Garchey waste disposal system incorporating a bowl or tube as defined hereinabove.
The invention will be further described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings which shows somewhat schematically a storage and waste disposal unit of a Garchey waste disposal system, mounted below a sink.
The construction and operation rjf Garchey waste disposal systems is weL known in the art and so we will describe the system in only brief outline here.
Referring to the drawing. an outer bowl 2 which is cast in aluminium is mounted on the underside of a sink 4 by bolting it to a plate housing 6. a gasket 8 forming a water right seal wilh the sink 4. At its lower end, the outer bowl 2 is clamped to a waste pipe 9 with a sealing gland 10.
The bowl 2 has an overflow outiet 12 connected to a waste pipe 13 for excess waste water.
A guide sleeve 14, of aluminium. is fixed in place in the housing 6 by a bayonet or screw coupling and a plug cover 16 rests on a step 18.
A waste tube 20 slides within the guide sleeve 14. The tube 20 has a hemispherical valve member 22, which is also of aluminium, pivotally mounted on its lower end. With the tube 20 in its lowered position, seen in the drawing, the valve member 22 forms a seal with the gland 10.
A visor 24 is also mounted on the lower end of the waste tube 20.
A removable waste grid 26 is mounted in the upper end of the waste tube 20.
In use, the waste tube 20 is filled with waste items such as cans, bottles and cartons, while the surrounding bowl is filled with waste water.
To empty the tube 20, the tube is lifted. raising the valve member 22 dear of the gland 10, so that the waste items fall into the waste pipe 9, and are carried along by the waste water which discharges through the pipe 9 at the same time. The visor 24 drops down to guide the waste items into the pipe 9.
A float mechanism (not shown) may be provided on the guide sleeve
14. ro inhibit raising of the tube 20 unril the bowl 2 is filed to a predetermined level with waste water.
To dean the system, the guide sleeve 14 is first removed and the waste tube 20 can then be lifted out.
