Abstract
232,244. Rehbock, T. April 10, 1924, [Convention date]. Canals and rivers.-For preventing the washing away of the beds of water courses below water falls, weirs, sluice gates &c. in which an apron e is located below the weir or, gate, a low sill e of roof-shaped cross section is disposed at the down-stream end of the apron and. is provided with a row of teeth f having vertical or steeply inclined up-stream faces and gently sloped downstream faces. There is thus formed a ground eddy i, Fig. 4, above the unprotected bed b of the water course, and the water running downstream through the gaps between the teeth discharges into the up-stream current of the eddy i and reduces its velocity. To lessen the scouring effect on the sides of the course, the end teeth f<1>, Fig. 1, may be higher and wider than the other teeth.
