Abstract

A storage container has a palletised part or parts (3) permitting it to be handled by a forklift vehicle.

Description

STORAGE CONTAINER FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a storage container particularly a palletised storage container for use in transporting medical products.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION It is necessary in certain circumstances to transport medical products around the world under refrigerated conditions, for example, within a narrow band of temperature, such as 2 to 80C.
This is achieved by employing polystyrene storage containers and adding a cooling agent crudely in the form of bags of ice or dry ice.
During transportation standard pal lets are used to carry the storage containers from one mode of transport to the other such as from an aeroplane to a truck and then the eventual place of use.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is the object of the present invention to provide a storage container particularly of the type discussed provided with a palletised part or parts avoiding the need to employ standard type pallets as with the prior art.
This leads to several advantages, for example, cheapness, increased stability, and the ability to dispense with the need to strap the storage containers together on a separate pallet or the containers themselves to the pallet.
According to the invention there is provided a storage container having a palletised part or parts to permit the container to be handled by a forklift vehicle.
Advantageously the storage container has two or more container body sections including a base section, said base section constituting the palletised part of the storage container.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Other advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following description taken with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows an exploded view of the storage container according to the invention.
PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION The storage container shown in the drawings comprises a lid section 1, a central section 2 and a base section 3.
The base section 3 is provided with two spaced recesses 4 in its support surface.
The recesses 4 are shaped and arranged to receive the arms of a fork lift vehicle (not shown) to permit the storage container to be transported from place to place.
The material of the storage container as described is polystyrene but other suitable materials could be employed without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Central section 2 may be dispensed with, and lid section 1 applied directly to base 3. Alternatively, two or more central sections 2 may be used in a stacked configuration.

Claims (4)

1. A storage container having a palletised part or parts to permit the container to be handled by a forklift vehicle.
2. A storage container as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the container has two container body sections including a base section, said base section constituting the palletised part of the storage container.
3. A storage container as claimed in Claim 2, wherein palletisation of the base section is achieved by the provision of two spaced channels in the support surface of the base section.
4. A storage container substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
