Abstract

A bricklaying aid which assists laying of a consistent amount of mortar has side flanges adapted to overlie the top edge of bricks, and upstanding members as shown so that mortar 5 can be consistently laid to level 4 as shown in figure 3.

Description

BRICK LAYING AID- MORTAR GAUGE The invention relates to a device that aids the process of laying bricks.
The process of laying bricks requires a high level of manual dexterity to achieve a satisfactory result at a reasonable pace.
Only through skill and experience bricks can be laid proficiently. The problems an amateur / D.l.Y. enthusiast encounter when attempting to lay bricks include the inability to equally dispense the correct volume of mortar, to achieve a true line of bricks at the required height.
Consequently, to the amateur, brick laying is not viable.
The invention aids the user to apply the mortar to a measured volume in a correct even path, avoiding the brick face.
This gives consistent results at a reasonable pace.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by the way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the device in isometric view.
Figure 2 shows the device fitted over a standard house brick.
Figure 3 shows end view of device on house brick filled with mortar.
Figure 4 illustrates house brick with mortar applied.
Figure 5 illustrates end view of brick placed onto mortar.
Figure 6 illustrates end view of brick tapped into place.
Figure 7 shows an isometric view of the device with optional spacers.
The device consists of a frame (1-figi) that fits over a standard house brick215mm x 103mm x 65mm (2-fig2) that forms part of a wall. The frame acts as a gauge when filled with mortar (3-fig3) to the level top (4fig3).
Wben the mortar is levelled to depth (5-fig3), the frame is removed by sliding back with use of the handle (6-fig 1) leaving a level measured dual pattem of mortar (7-fig4) along the centre of the laying line, clear of the brick face to avoid disfigurement.
The next layer brick (8-fig5) is placed onto the mortar path, requiring a minimal tap to spread the evenly distributed mortar to the edge of the wall face (9-fig6) Measuring the mortar ensures the correct height of each course and can be varied with the use of spacers (10-fig7) added to the frame.

Claims (4)

1 The device enables the user to apply the measured quantity of mortar in the building process, using standard house bricks.
2 The device assists the user to apply mortar to give a true and even coarse of bricks.
3 The device assists the user to apply the correct amount of mortar to avoid overflow onto the brick face, causing disfigurement.
4 The device will eliminate the need for the user to reapply a house brick due to excess / insufficient quantity of mortar.
