Abstract

An electrical plug of the kind having a housing (4) of insulating material from one face of which project a plurality of contact pins (1,2,3) for plugging into an electrical socket and adapted to have an electrical cable (5) connected to terminals inside the housing (4), the cable passing through a cable aperture (6) in one end of the housing, is formed on the face (11) as an electrical socket, the terminals (1,2,3) inside the housing (4) being adapted to receive the pins of an electrical plug fitted into the socket. The terminals (1,2,3) may be provided with spring clips (15,16,17) for receiving and gripping the pins of an electrical plug.

Description

lanrovenents relating to Electrical Plus This invention relates to electrical plugs of the kind having a housing of insulating material from one face of which project a plurality of contact pins for plugging into an electrical socket.
The object of the invention is to increase the functionality of such a plug.
According to the invention a plug of the kind described and adapted to have an electrical cable connected to terminals inside the housing, the cable passing through a cable aperture in one end of the housing, is formed on the face opposite to said one face as an electrical socket, the terminals inside the housing being adapted to receive the pins of an electrical plug fitted into said socket.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the plug, Figure 2 shows a side view of the plug with the housing cover removed, Figure 3 shows a plan view of the plug again with the housing cover removed, and Figures 4 to 6 are detail views of the terminals showing their adaptation according to the invention Referring to the drawings, the plug shown is a 13 amp three pin plug having live and neutral contact pins 1 and 2 and an earth pin 3 projecting from one face of plug housing 4.
A three core electric cable 5 extends through a cable aperture 6 in the housing 4 and connects with terminals 7,8 and 9, the terminal 7 being provided as a terminal block with clip for receiving one end of a cartridge fuse, whose other end is received in a similar clip provided on live pin 1. The terminals 8 and 9 are formed on the pins 2 and 3.
The top face 11 of the housing 4 is itself formed as the face of a 13 amp socket with apertures 12,13 and 14 for receiving the pins of another 13 amp plug. The pins 1,2 and 3 are fitted with "U" shaped spring clips 15, 16 and 17 for gripping and making electrical contact with the pins of a plug fitted into the socket on the top face 11.

Claims (3)

Claims:
1. An electrical plug of the kind having a housing of insulating material from one face of which project a plurality of contact pins for plugging into an electrical socket and adapted to have an electrical cable connected to terminals inside the housing, the cable passing through a cable aperture in one end of the housing, wherein the plug is formed on the face opposite to said one face as an electrical socket, the terminals inside the housing being adapted to receive the pins of an electrical plug fitted into said socket.
2. An electrical plug according to Claim 1, wherein said terminals are provided with spring clips for receiving and gripping the pins of an electrical plug.
3. An electrical plug substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
