Abstract

231,814. Hirsch, L., and Zahn, H. April 5, 1924, [Convention date]. Parallel, straight-bar, and warp machines.- For traversing the elements of a straight knitting machine, such as the guide bars of a double rib warp machine, a perforated paper band 110 is used to indicate merely the length and direction of a movement, the point of application being determined by the sum of the previous movements. The band 110 carries the selections for all the guide bars. The jacquard pins 120 for one bar only are shown. Each pin 120 is connected to a sliding selecting bar 140 located between the two lugs 161 of a vertical member 160 having an integral horizontal arm 165. Advance selection is made possible by the pivoted claw members 150, 155 actuated by a cam 156 on the main drive 105 so as to be raised and lowered respectively to clamp the unselected bars 140 and tip up the selected ones thereby raising the corresponding vertical members 160. A locking bar 157 is then pushed into notches 158 in the members 160 to retain the members 160 in the positions given them by the claws 150, 155 which are now swung apart and a new selection made. Slidably connected to each horizontal arm 165 are coupling pins 220, all the pins concerned with one guide bar being set in a row in a slide frame 250, a corresponding number of holes being provided in a member 202 sliding in a lever 200 oscillated about a pivot 201 by a cam 206 on the main drive 105, the arrangement being such that when a coupling pin 220 is raised by the selecting means, it passes into a hole in the sliding member 202 so that oscillation of the lever 200 moves the slide frame 250 by an amount depending on the distance between the lever pivot 201 and the particular coupling pin 220 selected. The mechanism for applying the movements of the slide frame 250 to the guide bar 50 comprises two racks 350 on the forked end of the slide frame and a pinion 360 which is engaged by either rack, so as to be capable of rotation in either direction by a system of levers &c., including a rocking member 320, operated by a cam 306 on the main drive 105 to raise or lower the racks, the direction being determined by a special vertical member 160 connected by a wire 167 to the rocking member 320 and operated by the jacquard. The pinion 360 rotates a vertical rod 365 which reciprocates, by a rack and pinion, a racking bar 370 connected to the guide bar 50 so as to permit the necessary swinging movement of the latter. A wedge 361 engages the pinion after each movement.
