Abstract
The invention provides a container (10) for a coffin. The container (10) has transparent panels (30-36) for viewing the coffin through the closed container (10). One end wall (18) can be opened for inserting the coffin into the container (10). The lid (22) can also be opened to allow access to the inside of the container (10). When closed, the container (10) when buried in to the ground will protect the coffin (5) from any soil coming in contact with the coffin (5) in the immediate future.
Description
Container for coffin
This invention relates to a container/enclosure for a coffin.
Traditionally, except where crematoria is used, coffins are interred into the ground and are to be surrounded purely by earth.
It is an object of this invention to provide a container to house a coffin which will offer the following advantages:
The coffin will not come in contact with earth once interred into the ground, therefore protecting the coffin from immediate rotting effect from the earth and moisture.
The coffin will be placed inside the container and then can be surrounded by any chosen decoration once inside the container for either religious or personal purposes, so the coffin will have the chosen surrounding decoration once interred into the ground.
The coffin will be more pleasant to look at, as you will still be able to see the coffin and its chosen surroundings before it is put into the ground to rest. (As seen in FIG 3)
This invention is giving people more of a choice, making the process more personal as opposed to putting the corpse inside a wooden box and then bury them in the ground, it allows people to choose what is going to surround their loved ones for the rest of eternity!
Other objects of this invention will become apparent from the following description, with reference to the drawings, of a preferred embodiment.
In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the container with the lid open, without a coffin, embodying the invention. When the lid is open and there is a coffin inside the container, it allows easy access to the coffin whilst inside the container to place the chosen decoration around the coffin, also allowing the coffin to be open whilst inside the container allowing the body to be viewed.
FIG. 2 is another view of the container of FIG. 1, but with an end wall open to make it easy to place a coffin inside the container.
FIG. 3 is another view of the container of FIG. 1 and 2, but containing a coffin.
FIG. 4 is another view of the container of FIG. 1, 2 and 3, but with both the lid and an end wall open.
FIG. 5 illustrates how the lid and end wall (which are both able to be opened), are hinged to the container.
FIG. 6 is another view of the container embodying a coffin as referred to in FIG. 3 but with moisture absorbing crystals 40 on show.
The container 10 comprises of a base 12, two side walls 14, 16, two end walls 18, 20 and a lid 22. The base 12, two side walls 14, 16, two end walls 18, 20 and lid 22 are made of wood, for example water-proofed pine. The two side walls 14, 16, an end wall 20 and lid 22 each contain respective transparent panels 30, 32, 34 and 36, for example made of toughened perspex, for viewing the coffin 5 there through when the container 10 is closed, as shown in FIG. 3.
The end wall 18 and the lid 22 are hinged to the side wall 14 so they can be opened as shown in
FIG 3 and 4.
When closed, the container 10 is hermetically sealed, due to the provision of rubber sealing strips.
The moisture inside the container when closed will be absorbed by moisture absorbing crystals 40 as shown in FIG. 6.
