Abstract

This invention relates to a removable window mounted ventilation panel for vehicles. During hot weather the air temperature in vehicles can become uncomfortably high for it's occupants, especially when the vehicle is left unattended with the windows closed. This invention provides a means of extracting the hot air from the vehicle via an extraction fan mounted in a removable window panel. The panel 1 fits into the existing window space and is secured by raising the window 2 into the slotted recess 5 at the bottom of the panel. The panel is further secured when the window and panel are raised to the point where the top of the panel is securely located in the top of the vehicles window recess.

Description

WINDOW MOUNTED VENTILATION PANEL FOR VEHICLES This invention relates to a removable window mounted ventilation panel for vehicles.
During hot weather the air temperature in vehicles can become uncomfortably high for it's occupants, especially when the vehicle is left unattended with the windows closed.
The invention described here provides a means of extracting the hot air from the vehicle via an extraction fan mounted in a removable window panel. The extractor fan may be powered by: a. the vehicle battery (either hard wired into the wiring loom or connected to the cigarette lighter socket), b. a dedicated rechargeable battery pack, c. solar panels providing either the main power source or providing trickle charging for rechargeable batteries.
Operation of the extractor fan may be controlled by a thermostat and battery management system to ensure the vehicle battery (if used) retains sufficient charge to start the vehicle.
The window mounted ventilation panel will be made of a material which shall equal, or exceed the strength of the vehicle window material. When correctly fitted it shall not be possible to easily remove the panel without first gaining access to the vehicle interior. The panel may also be fitted with vents, louvers and/or moveable ducts to allow the flow of air without the aid of an extraction fan. The use of moveable ducts will be particularly beneficial when the vehicle is in motion, allowing the occupant to adjust the duct to direct a flow of air into the vehicle.
The shape and size of the ventilation panel will be adjusted to suit the window size of the vehicle into which it is to be fitted.
The invention will now be further described with the aid of the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 - shows a front view of the panel, as you would see it if viewed from outside the vehicle.
Figure 2 - shows a side view of the panel.
Figure 3 - shows a plan view of the panel.
Referring to the drawing: the removable window mounted ventilation panel 1 will be fitted by first lowering the window 2, then flexing the panel to reduce it's width and allow it to slot into the vehicles window recess guides. The window will then be raised guiding the top of the window into the slotted recess 5 at the bottom of the panel. The panel will be secure when the window and panel have been raised to a point where the top of the panel is securely located in the top of the vehicles window recess guide.
Removal of the panel is achieved by completing the above sequence in reverse order.
Where it is not possible to flex the panel into the existing window recess guides (due to the design of the window) the panel will be fitted with flexible seals, along it's vertical edges, to prevent the ingress of water and maintain a good seal with the window frame.
As stated earlier the operation of the extractor fan 3 may be controlled by a thermostat and battery management system, the circuitry for these items along with any solar panel or battery packs may be mounted on the panel.
The external extractor vent cover 4 shall be shaped to prevent the ingress of water whilst the vehicle is stationary or in motion.
