Description

Gas Supply Arrangements This invention relates to gas supply arrangements and more particularly to gas supply arrangements for gas cooking appliances e.g. gas cookers or gas hobs, for supplying gas to the gas burners thereof.
In gas cookers and gas hobs it is known to provide a gas supply arrangement comprising a tubular gas pipe which is connected to a gas supply, and on which is mounted a plurality of saddle-type gas taps or valves which extend into the gas pipe and provide a controlled gas supply to a respective gas burner. Conventionally, the saddle-type gas taps or valves have been mounted on the gas pipe by means of a pair of screws which extend through a channel shaped bracket in which the gas pipe is disposed into respective fixings in the gas taps or valves.
In use of such an arrangement it has been found that misalignment of the gas tap or valve can easily take place if the screws clamping it to the gas pipe are not screwed up evenly, which can easily happen on a production line situation, and also it would be advantageous to dispense with one of the screws in order to simplify the assembly procedure to effect time and cost savings as well as improved alignment of the gas taps.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved gas supply arrangement of the kind described.
According to the present invention there is provided a gas supply arrangement for a gas cooking appliance comprising a gas pipe for connection to a gas supply, a plurality of saddle-type gas valves mounted on said gas pipe, a bracket in which said gas pipe is disposed, said bracket having a base portion on which said gas pipe is located and an upturned side portion on at least one side of said gas pipe, said side portion having a plurality of slots therein for receiving a side fixing member of a respective one of said gas valves, means being provided for clamping the other side fixing members of said gas valves to said gas pipe.
In a preferred arrangement for carrying out the invention it is arranged that said bracket has side portions on both sides of said gas pipe, one of said side portions having said plurality of slots therein for receiving a side fixing member of a respective one of said gas valves, and the other of said side portions having a top edge to which the other side fixing members of said gas valves are clamped by suitable clamping means.
In carrying out the invention it may be arranged that said clamping means comprises a screw which extends through the base portion of said bracket into the said other side fixing member of each of said gas valves.
Advantageously, said gas pipe is constituted by a cylindrical tube having a partially deformed circumference, and is apertured along its length to receive respective gas inlet spigots of said gas valves.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention will now be described, reference being made to the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 are perspective and cross-sectional side views respectively of a gas supply arrangement according to the present invention.
In the drawings there is shown a gas supply arrangement for a gas cooking appliance e.g. a gas cooker or gas hob (not shown) for providing a controlled gas supply to the gas burners (also not shown) thereof.
The gas supply arrangement shown in the drawings comprises a gas pipe 1, one end of which (not shown) is adapted to be connected to a gas supply (not shown) and the other end of which (not shown) is closed in order to prevent gas escaping from the gas pipe. The gas pipe 1 is made from a cylindrical tube, typically of aluminium, the circumference of which is partially deformed along the length of the gas pipe 1 to afford a concave portion 2.
The gas pipe 1 is provided along its length with a plurality of conventional saddle-type gas taps or valves 3 only one of which is shown, each of the gas taps 3 having an inlet spigot 4 (Fig. 2) which extends into a respective one of a plurality of apertures 5 (Fig. 2) formed along the length of the gas pipe, a gas seal 6 (Fig. 2) being provided around the spigot 4 to prevent the leakage of gas.
The gas pipe 1 is located in a channel shaped bracket 7 having a base portion 8 on which is located the concave portion 2 of the gas pipe 1. The bracket 7 is provided along each edge with upstanding side portions 9 and 10 disposed on either side of the gas pipe 1.
The side portion 9 of the bracket 7 is provided along its length with a plurality of rectangular slots 11, each of the slots 11 corresponding to the position of one of the gas taps 3, and each of the slots 11 being adapted to receive one of the side fixing members 12 of the gas tap 3.
The side portion 10 of the bracket 7 is provided with a top edge 13 on which the other side fixing member 14 of the gas tap 3 rests, the gas tap 3 being secured to the bracket 7 by means of a single screw 15 which extends upwards through a hole in the base portion 8 of the bracket 7 and screws into a threaded hole 16 in the side fixing member 14 of the gas tap 3.
In this way mounting of the gas tap 3 is effected by a single fixing which simplifies the assembly procedure to effect time and cost savings, and also obviates any alignment problems which may occur when conventional two-point fixing of the gas tap 3 is used.
Although it is advantageous to clamp the side fixing member 14 of the gas tap 3 to the top edge 13 of the bracket 7, it is envisaged that in some arrangements the top edge 13 may be dispensed with and the side fixing member 14 secured so that the gas tap 3 is clamped to the gas pipe 1.
