Abstract

A length of strong, open weave porous material has loops of a strong edging material incorporated, with colour coding for quicker correct application around a body, in an emergency situation involving water, to give a safer movement technique for the rescuers. Loops at the head end of the scoop are coloured differently from those at the opposite end.

Description

FLEXIBLE EMERGENCY LIFTING SCOOP This invention relates to a style of open weave material for use in emergency situations.
There are several specifications of open weave material available to assist in the movement of people. In the event of a life threatening emergency (e.g. cardiac/respiratory arrest/fit) in a more difficult environment, e.g. bath/ swimming bath, the existing lengths of materials can be difficult for the handlers to achieve control of the victim safely and quickly.
According to the present invention the difficulty in positioning the material correctly but quickly is overcome by the loops, coloured at the head end of the length of the material, for easy identification, incorporated into the edging material. The subsequent movement of the victim is then quicker but safer for those handling the body.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the length of material in its finished state.
Figure 2 shows the length of strong open weave material.
Figure 3 shows the edging material formed into loops at the two foot end corners.
Figure 4 shows the coloured edging material, for rapid identification, attached over the self coloured edging material and formed into loops at the two head end corners.

Claims (5)

1. A handling scoop of strong open weave material, adapted for emergency use in wet situations, prevents the inclusion of the weight of water being handled in addition to the weight of the body.
2. A handling scoop of strong open weave material, as claimed in Claim 1 wherein incorporated and heavily oversewn loops at each corner with optional mid length short loops give better grip for easier handling of a potentially heavy and awkward load.
3. A handling scoop of strong open weave material as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein the knotting of each corner of the length of material (optional) will give greater gripping potential on the material and form a hammock shaped sling to control the flaccid limbs during movement.
4. A handling scoop of strong open weave material, as claimed in any preceding claim, of suitable dimensions to control the weight of any body at its heaviest point, while giving support to the head and shoulders.
5. A handling scoop of strong open weave material, as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the two loops at one end of the length of material are of a different colour giving rapid identification of the correct placing and usage of the scoop.
