Abstract
The method comprises the steps of taking a pair of cutting blades 10 and 11 pivotable relative to one another about a first axis (17 fig 2) to perform a cutting operation and a pair of thinning blades 12 and 13 pivotable relative to one another about a second axis 17 to perform a hair thinning operation, and operating the two pairs of blades in unison with the first and second axes coincident with one another and with the two pairs of blades spaced from one another by a constant distance. Hair cutting scissors for performing this method are also disclosed having just two handles 14 and 15, one connected to one of the cutting blades and a corresponding thinning blade and the other connected to the other cutting blade and the other thinning blade.
Description
IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING
TO HAIR CUTTING
This invention relates to a method of cutting hair and to hair cutting scissors.
According to a first aspect of the invention there is provided a method of cutting hair, comprising the steps of:
(a) taking a pair of cutting blades pivotable relative to one
another about a first axis to perform a cutting operation
and a pair of thinning blades pivotable relative to one
another about a second axis to perform a hair thinning
operation, and
(b) operating the two pairs of blades in unison with the first
and second axes coincident or substantially coincident
with one another and with the two pairs of blades
spaced from one another by a constant or substantially
constant distance.
According to a second aspect of the invention there is provided hair cutting
scissors comprising a first pair of mutually co-operable cutting blades pivotable
relative to one another in a first cutting plane, a second pair of mutually co-operable hair thinning blades pivotable relative to one another in a second thinning plane, spaced from and parallel to the first plane, the pivot axes of the two pairs of blades being coincident, and two handles, one connected to one of the cutting blades and a corresponding thinning blade and the other connected to the other cutting blade and the other thinning blade.
Preferably, the cutting blades are spaced apart from the thinning blades by a distance of between 0.5 cm and 2 cm, and more preferably by a distance of between 1 cm and 1.5 cm.
The invention will now be more particularly described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one embodiment of hair cutting scissors according to the present invention, and
Figure 2 is a side view of the scissors shown in Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, the hair cutting scissors shown therein comprise a first pair of mutually co-operable, straight-edged, cutting blades 10 and 11, a second pair of mutually co-operable, notched, hair thinning blades 12 and 13, and two handles 14 and 15.
The handle 14 is connected to the blades 10 and 12 and the handle 15 is connected to the blades 11 and 13. The handles 14 and 15 have finger/thumb holes 16 and are pivotable about an axis 17 to pivot the blades 10 and 11 and the blades 12 and 13.
The blades 10 and 11 are arranged to pivot in a plane which is spaced from and parallel to a plane in which the blades 12 and 13 pivot. These two planes are spaced apart by a distance of between 0.5 cm and 2 cms, and more preferably by a distance of between 1 cm and 1.5 cms and typically by a distance of about 1.25 cms.
It has been found that by operating the two pairs of blades in unison at a fixed spacing from one another, a better haircut can be obtained.
A method according to the invention could also be carried out by two pairs of scissors, one having conventional cutting blades and the other having conventional thinning blades, by operating the scissors in unison with the cutting blades spaced apart from the thinning blades by a constant or substantially constant distance and the pivotable axis of the cutting blades substantially coincident with the pivotable axis of the thinning blades.
Claims (6)
1. A method of cutting hair, comprising the steps of
(a) taking a pair of cutting blades pivotable relative to one
another about a first axis to perform a cutting operation
and a pair of thinning blades pivotable relative to one
another about a second axis to perform a hair thinning
operation, and
(b) operating the two pairs of blades in unison with the first
and second axes coincident or substantially coincident
with one another and with the two pairs of blades
spaced from one another by a constant or substantially
constant distance.
2. A method of cutting hair, substantially as hereinbefore described with
reference to the accompanying drawings.
3. Hair cutting scissors comprising a first pair of mutually co-operable cutting
blades pivotable relative to one another in a first cutting plane, a second pair of
mutually co-operable hair thinning blades pivotable relative to one another in a second
thinning plane, spaced from and parallel to the first plane, the pivot axes of the two
pairs of blades being coincident, and two handles, one connected to one of the cutting blades and a corresponding thinning blade and the other connected to the other cutting blade and the other thinning blade.
4. Hair cutting scissors as claimed in claim 3, wherein the cutting blades are spaced apart from the thinning blades by a distance of between 0.5 cm and 2 cm.
5. Hair cutting scissors as claimed in claim 4, wherein the cutting blades are spaced apart from the thinning blades by a distance of between 1 cm. and 1.5 cm.
