Abstract

231,460. BenzonaftÞne. March 28, 1924, [Convention date]. Separating gaseous mixtures by liquefaction.-The gaseous mixture prepared as described in Specifications 231,157 and 231,459, [both in Class 32, Distilling &c.], is treated to separate light hydrocarbons. The gases are withdrawn from a gas-holder 26 by a pump 2 which compresses them to 20 atmospheres. The gases pass through a liquid-separator 4, a cooler 7 cooled by circulation of brine in a coil 8 and an expansion vessel 9 which causes further liquefaction. The liquid passes by a pipe 16 to a water-jacketed still 17 from which by fractional distillation, distillates of rhigolene, petroleum ether, gasoline and ligroine are obtained. The uncondensed gases pass through a washer 11 containing sulphuric acid heated to 150‹ C. or bromine to absorb ethylene, and through a waterscrubber 13 to a holder 14. The residual gases may be used to heat the still 17.
