Abstract

A roller shutter door 8 having a flanged bottom edge cooperates in the closed position with an internal guide plate 3 and an external guide plate 2 supporting a ramp plate 7, the guide plates being set into or onto a concrete base and eliminating gaps beneath the door. Spaced key-operated locks 4 cooperate with latch covers 6 welded to the door.

Description

CLOSURE PLATE FOR ROLLER SHUTTER DOORS This invention relates to a closure plate for securing roller shutter doors.
Roller shutter doors are vell known for being made from steel or other materials vhich can be wound around a carrier mechanism at high level at the entrance to or exit from a building, garage, workshop. They can be manually or motor driven to close against the entrance/exit in a vertical position thereby preventing access to the premises.
nost roller shutter doors, however, have to be secured in a closed position by the use of bolts vhich lock into the adjacent vertical sides of the door casement or into brackets at the base of the door casement. This method only provides for limited security especially at the base of the door where gaps under the door can be widened using mechanical means of entry, for example hydraulic jacks.
Also, rhen installed, some locks located at the base of a roller shutter door can be disenabled either by cutting through the lock or by forcing apart the locking mechanisms or by removing the bolts which secure the locks to the roller shutter door. This effectively renders the roller shutter door as being far from vandal proof.
According to the present invention there is provided a closure plate for roller shutter doors comprising a base plate complete vith internal and external guide plates and ramp plate vhich can be set onto the floor of the entrance/exit and permanently secured by the use of concrete fixings which are then welded to prevent removal, a means for securing the roller shutter door to the base plate vhich is releasable, a means of preventing the roller shutter door from being forced from the closed and locked position, a means to prevent the ingress of dirt and vater which could affect the closure plate's operational use along vith means to allov vehicular access into the building without damaging any of the component parts of the closure plate.
A specific embodiment of the invention vill now be described by ray of example with reference to the accompanying dravings in which: Figure 1 Shovs in perspective the closure plate set onto the concrete floor of an entrance, vith the roller shutter door open and the closure plate unlocked.
Figure 2 Shows in cross section the roller shutter door in its locked inoperable position with the base of the door located securely within the closure plate.
Referring to Fig 1 and Fig 2 operation is as follovs: Retract the latches of all locks 4 by inserting key through the cutout in the lock housing 5 and turning key to unlock.
Pull the roller shutter door 8 down and insert its base into the slot between the internal guide 3 and external guide 2, ensuring that the external side of the base of the door is trapped under the ramp plate 7.
Turn the key in all locks 4 to engage the lock latches into the latch covers 6 vhich have been welded to the door, ensuring that the internal side of the base of the door is trapped under the latches, then remove keys.
To unlock and open the roller shutter door, the steps described above are carried out in the reverse sequence.

Claims (6)

1. A closure plate for roller shutter doors comprising a base plate complete rith internal and external guides which can be set permanently onto or into a concrete base.
2. A closure plate for roller shutter doors as claimed in Claim 1 vherein means are provided to prevent a roller shutter door from being forced from its closed and locked position by virtue of a close tolerance ramp plate which spans the whole width of the roller shutter door.
3. A closure plate for roller shutter doors as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 vherein means are provided to lock a door into a floor base and yet be releasible by virtue of two or more 5-lever pattern locks.
4. A closure plate for roller shutter doors as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 or Claim 3 wherein means are provided to allow approved vehicular access into the building without damaging any of the component parts of the closure plate or the vehicle.
5. A closure plate for roller shutter doors as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 or Claim 3 or Claim 4 wherein means are provided to protect component parts from the ingress of dirt and water.
6. A closure plate for roller shutter doors substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 - 2 of the accompanying drawings.
