Abstract

A profiled prefabricated plastics sheeting is moulded so that the reverse side has an open mesh structure, and the front side has pinnacles which project from this mesh. The reverse side of the sheeting (mesh side) is fixed to the substrate to be plastered/rendered/screeded. The plaster/render/screed is then applied to the front of the sheeting (pinnacled side) in a conventional way, and the special pinnacled surface texture ensures a constant thickness of application, and even surface finish (the trowel gliding across the tips of the pinnacles). Because the sheeting has an open structure (in the form of a mesh), when the plaster/render/screed passes between the pinnacles it also passes through the mesh and then comes into direct contact with the substrate behind. On vertical faces (i.e.walls) the pinnacles will prevent the plaster/render from slumping after application. The open texture reverse side of the sheeting can also be ribbed to give rigidity and strength. In the case of floor screeding, the sheet is secured to the floor substrate (mesh side facing the substrate) and the screed is applied to the pinnacled side of the sheet and trowelled and levelled.

Description

PLASTERERS/RENDERERS/SCREEDERS AID This invention relates to a plasterers/renderers/screeders aid.
Plastering and rendering of walls and ceilings, and screeding of floors are difficult processes to carry out by the inexperienced. The difficulty lies in applying the plaster/render/screed to the substrate at an even thickness and level and achieving a smooth surface finish.
According to the present invention, there is provided a profiled prefabricated plastics sheeting. The sheeting is moulded so that the reverse side has an open mesh structure, and the front side has pinnacles which project from this mesh. The reverse side of the sheeting (mesh side) is fixed to the substrate to be plasteredlrenderedlscreeded.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the sheet being placed against a wall and temporarily fixed.
Figure 2 shows the sheet being aligned with a straight-edge after which it is permanently fixed to the wall.
Figure 3 shows a room after 'sheeting out' Figure 4 shows the application of plaster or render (in this case with a trowel).
Figure 5 shows a typical front view of the sheet Figure 6 shows a typical side view Figure 7 shows a typical isometric view Figure 8 shows the reverse side of the sheet Referring to the drawings, the sheet comprises a prefabricated moulded plastics sheeting. The sheeting is moulded so that the reverse side has an open mesh structure, and the front side has pinnacles which project from this mesh. The open texture reverse side of the sheeting can also be ribbed to give rigidity and strength.
In order to 'sheet out' a room the sheet is offered up to the substrate (mesh side facing the substrate), and cut to size. The sheet is then temporarily fixed to the substrate (mesh side facing the substrate) and adjusted with a straight edge to the required alignment and permanently fixed. Conventional corner beads can be used in conjunction with the product.
Once the room or smaller area to be plastered/rendered is sheeted out, the plaster/render is applied to the pinnacled side of the sheet and the pinnacles will allow the plaster/render to be applied to a desired thickness (depending on pinnacle length). The plaster/render once through the pinnacles will pass through the open structured back of the sheet onto the substrate behind.
The plaster/render can then be trowelled in a conventional way to smooth and polish it, with the trowel gliding over the tips of the pinnacles.
In the case of floor screeding, the sheet is secured to the floor substrate (mesh side facing the substrate) and the screed is applied to the pinnacled side of the sheet and trowelled and levelled.

Claims (8)

1 A profiled prefabricated plastics sheeting. The sheeting is moulded so that the reverse side has an open mesh structure, and the front side has pinnacles which project from this mesh.
2 A profiled sheet as claimed in claim 1 where the pinnacle shape, length and spacing can be varied, and the open structure (mesh size and shape) of the sheet and any ribbing design can be varied
3 A profiled sheet as claimed in claim 1 and claim 2 which can used for walls, ceilings and floors.
4 A profiled sheet as claimed in claim 1, claim 2 and claim 3 which can also have an adhesive backing for use on plasterboard or other substrates.
5 A profiled sheet as claimed in claim 1, claim 2, claim 3 and claim 4 which can be manufactured out of plastics, metals or other material.
6 A profiled sheet as claimed in claim 1, claim 2, claim 3, claim 4 and claim 5 which can have fixing lugs moulded as part of the sheet.
7 A profiled sheet as claimed in claim 1, claim 2, claim 3, claim 4 claim 5 and claim 6 which can be supplied in roll or single sheet form.
8 A profiled prefabricated sheet substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-8 of the accompanying drawings.
