Abstract
The hose supply rig allows compressed air to be made available over a long distance, without risks to operators of trailing hoses and returned out of the working area by the use of a pulley system using a sliding pulley 2 and the aid of pre-torqued spring balancer. The spring balancer retracts the pulley 2 through an intermediate plate 4 which can be held at the advanced position by a spring loaded ball device 3.
Description
Overhead Travelling Compressed Air Hose Supply Rig
Description
Currently compressed air for production areas is either supplied from; (a) Floor level, (b) Approx. work height, (c) Overhead drop,
All of the above options are from static positions and means that if compressed air was required a distance away this could only be achieved by lengthening the air 'take off hose which in turn causes safety problems as, historically, when hoses are left lying at floor level or just above, workers trip over them. The rig system allows compressed air to be available over a long distance without the need to increase the hose length.
The air rig travels forward and backwards suspended from an overhead track. Compressed air is fed through a recoiling tube which is connected via a fixed bulkhead Ref. Fig A to a flexible rubber hose. At the take off end of the rubber hose a quick connect coupling Ref. Fig A & B Item 1 and is provided for the connection of a pneumatically operated tool or equipment.
The system is operated by pulling down Item 1 Fig A and causing the floating pulley Ref. Fig 2 to travel forward along the length of the frame and then be locked in position by use of the spring loaded ball tensionners Ref. Fig 3 as shown in Fig B. The hose is retracted by a further downward pull then releasing, causing the floating pulley Fig 2 to travel forward to the bulkhead and then return to the rest position overcoming the ball tensionners with the assistance of the fixed spring balancer.
The floating pulley system Ref. Fig 2 is attached to the fixed spring balancer via a catch plate Ref.
Fig 4, which allows the floating pulley unit to be extended and retracted along the linear axis of the rig, while still allowing the pulley to rotate within the fixed runners.
Claims (1)
- Overhead Travelling Compressed Air Hose Supply RigClaims (i) The rig system greatly increases the safety of the use of compressed air . By reducing the hazard of hoses trailing the floor.(ii) Take off hoses are suspended and can be lengthened or shortened to suit the working conditions via a floating pulley system thus eliminating floor area obstructions by the hoses.(iii) All air supply hoses will consequently have a much increased working life, due to the elimination of any accidental crushing or scuffing on the floor.(iv) Unlike any hose reel system this system eliminates any recoiling problems due to its linear axis retract mechanism.(v) The hose extends with a more uniform and reduced downward loading due to the pulley system, eliminating the force required to pull against the spring balancer to retract the hose.
