Abstract

A standard lamp which has a bracket (Fig 1.1 )on to which detachable flexible arms can be fitted; one with a magnifying glass (5), another with a sprung clip (6). The lamp will be used to enable tasks to be performed which require both illumination and magnification, with the sprung clip acting as a holder for instructions and diagrams. The detachability of these arms reduces the area taken up by the lamp and returns to the lamp the appearance of a regular standard lamp. The lamp shaft is attached at the bottom to a weighted base (2). The lamp can be adjusted up and down and can be locked off (Fig 2.1.). A flexible stem (4) with a light fitting (7) attached is mounted on top of the telescopic shaft (3), thus affording a great variety of positions in which the lamp head can be placed. The detachable flexible stems also afford a great variety of positions for the magnifier and clip.

Description

Standard lamp with detachable magnifier and clip.
This invention relates to a standard lamp with detachable flexible stems on which are attached a magnifying lens and a clip for holding charts and diagrams.
Standard lamps are commonly used for illumination in the workplace and the home. Where people are per forming intricate tasks, they often require magnification as well.
There are a number of combined illumination and magnification lamps available, some having a lens and light source housed together; some with the lens and light source mounted seperately on stems.
It is a feature of this lamp that the flexible stems with the magnifier and clip are easily removable, thus rendering the lamp less 'awkward' looking when not in use, and more like a traditional standard lamp.
According to the present invention there is provided a standard lamp which can be adjusted up and down on a lockable telescopic shaft. The light fitting is attached to a flexible stem fixed to the top of the upper portion of the shaft. Mounted on to the lower portion of the shaft is a holder/bracket into which flexible stems can be inserted and removed. A magnifying lens is attached to one of the stems and a clip for holding instructions and diagrams on another. The whole unit is mounted on a weighted floor base which can be moved on castors.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the whole lamp Figure 2 shows the detachability of the flexible stems from the bracket/holder mounted on the shaft.
Referring to the drawing, FIG 1. The standard lamp comprises: 1. A bracket/holder for detachable flexible stems.
2. A weighted floor base, shown with castors.
3.A telescopic shaft which can be locked off.
4. Flexible stems.
5. A magnifying lens.
6. A sprung clip.
7. A light fitting.

2.A standard lamp as claimed in claim one with a detachable flexible stem on to which a magnifying lens is fitted.
3. A standard lamp as claimed in claim one and two with a detachable flexible stem on to which a sprung clip has been fitted.
