Scoring and marking apparatus.-A device for registering the score for games such as golf, baseball, &c. comprises a set of separate counters for registering the number of strokes or runs at each hole or innings and a totals counter for indicating the total number made during the game. As shown applied to the game of golf the device comprises a casing 5, Figs. 1 and 2, having a flanged cover 6 with apertures 8 and corresponding graduations 9. Adjacent each aperture is a numeral drum that is supported on a corresponding bracket 22, Fig. 4, secured to the cover 6; each drum is attached to its spindle 23 by a spring 25 and is formed with ratchet teeth 24 adapted to be engaged by a spring hook 29 on a plunger 27 when the cover is rotated to bring the appropriate drum to the operative position. A detent 26 is provided to prevent backward rotation of the numeral drum. The cover 6 is held in its adjusted position by means of a pin 12 on a spring blade 13 which passes through a hole in the casing 5 and co-operates with a series of holes in the cover flange. The plunger 27, Fig. 8, is slidably mounted on a base 30 which supports the shaft 32 of the totals counter. The numeral drums are connected by coiled springs to the shaft 32 and are actuated by pawls 33 which function as in the deep-notch transfer arrangement, the pawls being pivoted on a bar 34 that is carried by a pair of bell crank levers 35 to which is attached a tongue 37 provided with apertures. co-operating with teeth on the plunger 27. Detents 40 prevent backward rotation of the numeral drums. A counter-clockwise rotation of the cover 6 causes the registering units to be zeroized successively by reason of the engagement of a cam 42 on the base plate with the lower ends of the detents 26. At the same time gear wheels 44 rotated by a toothed ring 15, on the cover 6 cause pins 43 to throw out the actuating pawls 33 and detents 40 to permit the springs to return the numeral drums of the totals counter to zero position. A bezel 18 and cover glass may be provided to enclose the cover 6.
