Abstract

231,242. Lefebure, V. Dec. 29, 1923. Compositions containing cement, plaster, &c., and synthetic resins.-Cement, plaster, or like liquid-setting cement is mixed with a material such as phenol-, urea-, or thiourea-formaldehyde condensation products, capable of being rendered plastic and of setting to an irreversible product by heat, liquid is added, the mass is moulded and allowed to set, and is finally heated to convert the condensation product into its final form. The synthetic resin may be added as powder or liquid, in quantity preferably less than 10 per cent of the cement, but if desired up to 50 per cent. When high percentages are added, e.g. to Portland cement, it is advantageous to add the resin adsorbed or mixed with a filler as kieselguhr or colloidal clay, in order that the setting properties of the cement may not be impaired. The final heating may be by direct stream, with or without mechanical pressure. Specification 217,279 is referred to.
