Description
Hand-guided electric compass saw
Prior art
The starting point for the invention is a hand-guided electric compass saw of the type defined in the pre-characterising clause of claim 1.
In hand-guided compass saws, the contact safety device serves to keep the operator's fingers away from the saw blade in order to avoid injuries through the prevention, which is ensured in this way, of any contact with the teeth of the saw blade.
Previously known concepts for the contact safety device either provide satisfactory protection against contact but then prevent viewing of the point of engagement of the saw blade in the workpiece, or else they allow a good view of the point of saw blade engagement but do not offer sufficient protection against injuries. As a rule, they are expensive in design and require considerable adaptation of the compass saw construction in the region of the contact safety device to be fitted. This has an unfavourable effect on the cost and weight, and also the handiness of compass saws equipped with such a contact safety device.
Advantages of the invention
By contrast, the compass saw according to the invention with the characterising features of claim 1 has the advantage that the contact safety device not only reliably precludes any contact with the saw blade but also leaves clear, in a very satisfactory manner, the view of the point of engagement of the saw blade in the workpiece. At the same time, the contact safety device, which is constructed as a thin bar, aids visual checking of the cutting path since it can be used as a cutting sight. The contact safety device can be constructed in an economical manner as a part moulded onto the housing shell and requires no fitting of any kind, so that likewise no additional fitting or warehousing costs are incurred. Since the contact safety device is part of the overall design of the compass saw, it presents an aesthetic and attractive appearance.
Advantageous further developments of and improvements to the hand-guided electric compass saw indicated in claim 1 are possible as a result of the measures set out in the other claims.
Drawings
The invention is explained in greater detail in the following description, with the aid of an exemplified embodiment represented in the drawings, in which:
figure 1 shows, in detail form, a representation in perspective of a hand
guided electric compass saw,
figure 2 shows an enlarged detail of a view, in the direction of the arrow II
in figure 1, of the housing of the compass saw when separated into
its housing shells, and
figure 3 shows an enlarged detail of the right-hand housing shell of the
compass saw in figure 1.
Description of the exemplified embodiment
The hand-guided electric compass saw represented in perspective in figure 1 in detail form has a plastic housing 10 composed of two housing shells 101 and 102,.in which the two housing shells 101 and 102 adjoin one another along a partition line 11 extending centrally on the housing 10. Guided in the housing 10 in an axially displaceable manner is a lifting rod 12 which is impelled to perform a lifting movement by an electric motor via lifting gearing which is not represented here, the said lifting rod partly passing out through an opening 13 at the underside ofthe housing 10. At the free end, the lifting rod 12 is equipped with a clamping device 14 for receiving a saw blade 15. The housing 10 is mounted, in such a way as to be capable of swivelling about a swivelling axis extending in the direction of advance, on a base plate 16 which is used for mounting purposes and for guidance on a workpiece to be sawn. The saw blade 15 carries a row of teeth 17 pointing in the direction of advance and is supported, by its back 18 which faces away from the row of teeth 17, against a guide roller 19 held on the housing 10.
A contact safety device 20, which is constructed as a thin bar 21 and is moulded onto the housing shell 101 in one piece, is provided for protecting the operator's fingers from the row of teeth 17 on the saw blade 15. The bar 21 extends parallel to the saw blade 15, in front of its row of teeth 17, from the underside of the housing 10 to a point near the base plate 16. The fact that the bar 21 is in one piece with the housing shell 101 can be seen particularly clearly in figures 2 and 3. The thickness of the bar 21 is approximately equal to the depth of the saw blade. It can easily be perceived from figure 2, in which the two housing shells 101 and 102, which are separated from one another, of the housing 10 are represented in detail form and in frontal view, that the bar 21 is orientated symmetrically to the centre 20' of the partition line 11 between the housing shells 101 and 102. For receiving that part of the bar 21 which projects above the centre of the partition line, there is moulded-in, in the other housing shell 102, a recess 22 which receives the said projecting part of the bar 21 when the two housing shells 101 and 102 are assembled.
As already mentioned, the two housing shells are manufactured as injection-moulded plastic parts, the thin bar 21 for the contact safety device 20 being injection-moulded onto the housing shell 101 simultaneously with the injection-moulding of the latter, and the recess 22 being moulded into the housing shell 102 simultaneously with the moulding of the latter. However, the housing shells 101 and 102 with the moulded-on bar 21 and moulded-in recess 22 respectively, can also be produced as die-cast metal parts.
