Abstract

A fail-safe valve includes a medium inlet for flow of a fluid which passes into a housing. It is stopped/started by the seating action of a valve stem which moves up and down giving reciprocating movement to engage a mechanical position indicator. The valve stem's upward stroke also closes an adjacent circuit which illuminates an LED and its downward stroke illuminates another LED. The stem is fitted to a piston which is pressure controlled by hydraulic fluid which enters through a hydraulic inlet and exits through a hydraulic outlet. The flow then enters a check valve sub assy in which its spring loaded tip is forced back by the medium fluid which exits out of the medium outlet. The valve is suitable for sub-sea applications and may be made from stainless steel, duplex, super duplex, 6MO or other alloys.

DESCRIPTION Reverse acting actuated needle valve Pressure from vaccum up to 10,000 P.S.I. and made from stainless steel, duplex, super duplex, 6MO and other alloys.

Claims (1)

1/ An Enclosed ingress sealed fail safe actuator controlled valve unit with an inlet & outlet and restriction device to ensure 1 way flow of a fluid, suitable for subsea or arduous/contaminated environment applications.
2/ A valve unit as in claim 1 where flow control includes a spring return hydraulic pressure operated piston controlling a primary valve making flow from the inlet to the outlet.
3/ A valve unit as in claim 2 possessing an automatic fail safe feature: If the hydraulic pressure operating the piston was to fail the fluid pressure would push the primary valve closed.
4/ A valve unit as in claim 3 where a restriction device at the outlet includes a secondary spring return valve.
5/ A valve unit as in claim 4 possessing a secondary automatic fail safe feature: If the reverse flow pressure at the outlet valve was to rise above that of the inlet (due to pressure surges) the secondary restriction device would close.
6/ A valve unit as in claim 5 where a mechanical position indicator at top of the unit enables a visible check to ascertain whether valve is open or closed.
7/ A valve unit as in claim 6 where enclosed electronic LED position indicators/connectors ascertain main valve position status.
8/ A valve unit as in claim 7 that has internal air cavities pre-pressurised to compensate for hydrostatic pressure obtained from subsea conditions.
9/ A valve unit as in claim 8 that has a relief system to pressure compensate for internal movement of actuated components.
10/ A valve unit as in claim 9 which the entire of its members are made from metals including stem seals & pressure containment seals which are made from metals & plastics.
11/ A valve illustrated by the accompanying drawing.
