Abstract
The checker is in the form of an opaque sheet 10 with folded over tabs 14 to slidably-receive the lottery ticket 16 and having over a part 18 of its area numbers arranged in a pattern corresponding to the numbers of the ticket, each number being enclosed by perforated lines 20 for punching out, the remaining part 26 of the area of the sheet bearing advertising material. The checker also includes vertical cut-outs 22 for alignment with markings on the ticket.
Description
Lottery Tlcket Checker
This invention relates to a lottery ticket checker.
Lottery tickets, and likewise the receipts received in respect thereof, can be difficult to check, especially when multiple entries are made on one card. A complete winning row is not difficult to detect, but it is easily possible to miss rows which may contain three, four or five correct numbers. This is believed in part to account for the relatively large number of winning entries which remain unclaimed.
According to the invention, there is provided a lottery ticket checker in the form of a sheet of material a part of a surface of which is marked with numbers arranged in a pattern exactly corresponding to the numbers on a lottery ticket, each number being individually enclosed by lines of weakening.
Proposed use of the checker is that the winning numbers should be punched from the sheet, as by means of a pencil or pen or the like, the punched sheet then being laid precisely over the pattern of numbers of an entry on a marked lottery ticket so that marked numbers corresponding to winning numbers are visible through the punched out section of the sheet.
In order to facilitate alignment of the checker with an entry on the lottery ticket, the checker may have edge markings for alignment with markings on the lottery ticket or, more preferably, the checker may have cut-outs, for example elongate cut-outs adjacent opposite side edges of the checker, which can be aligned with markings on the lottery ticket bordering an entry thereon.
Vertical alignment can also be assisted if the checker sheet has a folded over tab, at least at the bottom or top but preferably both, enabling the checker to be clasped around the lottery ticket. If desired, the sheet could be formed into a flattened band into which the lottery ticket can be laterally inserted and slidahle therethrough.
The sheet is preferably made of any relatively stiff material such as cardboard, but could be made of plastics material, for example. The sheet is also preferably opaque or substantially so, so that an entry on the lottery ticket is only visible through the punched out sections.
The sheet may also be of any convenient shape and size, with the checking region occupying a lesser or greater part of its area. The remaining area of the sheet may be occupied by advertising material.
According to another aspect of the invention therefore, there is provided a lottery ticket checker as aforesaid having a checking region which occupies only a part of the area of the sheet, the remainder of the sheet surface being marked, i.e. printed, with advertising material such as advertising slogans.
An exemplary checker, intended for use with a lottery ticket of the kind currently in use for the United Kingdom national lottery, will now be briefly described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
The checker comprises a sheet of opaque cardboard 10 having a main section 12 and end tabs 14.
The end tabs 14 are folded hack to enable the checker to be clasped around a lottery ticket 16 with the main section 12 overlying the front of the ticket on which one or more entries are made. This main section includes a region 18 marked with the lottery ticket numbers 14, being the numbers one to forty nine, in exactly the same pattern as in a lottery ticket entry. Each number in the checking region of the checker is enclosed by lines of weakening, e.g. perforated lines 20. Exact alignment of the checking region with a lottery ticket entry is facilitated hy cutouts 22 in the checker, which are readily aligned with markings on the lottery ticket adjacent the sections thereof at which entries are made.
in use, six perforated sections of the checker are punched out in correspondence with the winning numbers. The checker is then lined up with an entry on the lottery ticket, whereupon the marked numbers on the entry, if any, are readily visible at the punched out sections.
The remaining part 26 of the lottery ticket checker may be surface printed with advertising material.
