Gear-cutting; milling-cutters. - Bevel-gears having teeth of logarithmic spiral form are generated by means of a cylindrical hob having teeth of uniformly varying pitch. The hob 13, Fig. 3, is rotated in unison with the blank 16 and has an additional generating movement in the direction of the arrow 19. In a modification, Fig. 2, a taper hob having teeth of uniformly varying pitch may be used. Specifications 205,138 and 208,177 are referred to. 230,885. Klingelnberg S÷hne, W. Gear-cutting.-In a machine for hobbing helicoidal bevel gears, particularly gears of logarithmic spiral form produced by the method described in Specificatian 230,884, the hob is mounted in a rotatable tood-head and is adjustable radially of the toolhead axis, angularly in the plane of the head and also angularly in planes perpendicular to the plane of the head. The blank support 4 is radially adjustable on a slide carried by a table which is angularly adjustable about a vertical axis 2, and the blank-spindle 15 is driven from a main-shaft 35 through bevel-gearing 36, 41, 43, change gears 45, and worm gearing 48. The tool-head, is mounted within a casing 5 and carries a radially-adjustable slide 21 provided with a rotatable member 20, the latter having cheeks 52 in which a member 51 carrying the hob spindle 14 is angularly adjustable by means cf bolts 54. The hob spindle is driven from a pinion 34 on the driving-shaft, through a shaft 32, differential gearing 31, bevel gearing 26, 24, 15, and spur-gearing 8. The arrangement of the gearing is such that the radial adjustment of the slide 21 and the angular adjustment of the head 51 may be made without disturbing the driving-gear. The tool-head 6 is driven to impart the generating-movement, to the hob . from a worm 57 on the shaft 35 through worm gearing 59, change-gearing, and worm gearing 55, while compensating movement is imparted to the planet wheel of the diffetential gear by means of worm gearing 64 driven through change-gears from the tool-head driving spindle 56. The casing 5 is longitudinally adjustable in order to enable hobs of different diameters to be used. Specifications 205,138 and 208,177 also are referred to.
