Abstract

A double fluoride of uranium and potassium, from which uranium may subsequently be reduced, is made by adding hydrofluoric acid and formic acid to a mixture of solutions of uranyl acetate and potassium or sodium fluoride and exposing the mixture to sunlight or ultra-violet rays. The product is fused with potassium and sodium chlorides to remove water of crystallization, washed, and dried.
