Description

AUTOMATIC TILTING DEVICE This Invention relates to the automatic tilting of casks of beer.
Casks of real ale contain yeast which produce a sediment in the cask. In order to minimize the disturbance of this sediment, casks should be tilted to their final position before they are half empty.
This invention fits onto existing stills. Once fitted. it will automatically tilt the cast before it becomes half empty, thus complying with recognised best practise. It can also be fitted to casks on tap, allowing the landlord to carry on business as usual whilst they are installed.
According to the present invention there is provided an automatic tilting device comprising a mounting bracket a removable cradle that travels up and down the mounting bracket a means for preventing sideways movement of the cradle a pair of springs that are compressed when the cradle is depressed. retaining clips for the springs.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by wan of example with reference to the accompaning drawing: FIGURE 1 shows in perspective the automatic tilting device with the cradle in its unloaded position.
FIGURE 2 shows a close-up of the locking holes in the mounting bracket.
FIGURE 3 shows in front plan the automatic tilting device fully loaded on a still.
FIGURE 4 shows from a side view the automatic tilting device mounted on a still with a full cask.
FIGURE 5 shows from a side view the automatic tilting device mounted on a still with an empty cask.
Referring to the drawing the automatic tilting device comprises a mounting bracket 1 a pair of springs and a removable cradle 2.
The device us first secured to the back of the still. In order to fit a cask, the cradle 2 is pushed fully down. Two R clips are then inserted into the bottom holes 4. The cradle is then locked and ready to receive the cask. Once the cask is in position the R clips in the bottom holes 4 are removed and inserted into the middle holes 5. The cask will now automatically rise as if empties until the R clips at 5 prevent further movement.
A pair of R clips in the top holes 6 ensure the springs and cradle are retained by tthe mounting bracket. A guide rod 8 prevents sideways movement of the cradle.

Claims (4)

  1. An automatic tilting device that is mounted onto an existing still comprising a mounting bracket, a pair of springs and a removable cradle, means for releasably securing the springs to the mounting bracket, the cradle to travel up and down the mounting, means for releasably locking cradle to the mounting bracket in various positions.
2 An automatic tilting device as explained in claim 1 wherein guide means are provided on the removable cradle co-operable with the mounting bracket to prevent sideways movement of the removable cradle.
3 An automatic tilting device substantially as described herein with reference to Fig 1-5 of the accompaning drawings.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1 An automatic tilting device which is bolted onto one end of a still. On which one end of a barrel is to rest, such that the device is depressed by a full barrel and the said barrel is tilted to its final position before it is approximately half empty.
  2. 2 An automatic tilting device according to claim 1 in the form of a mounting bracket1 a removable cradle that travels up and down the mounting bracket, a means for preventing sideways movement of the cradle, a pair of springs on the mounting bracket that are compressed when the cradle is depressed, retaining clips for the springs.
  3. 3 An automatic tilting device according to either previous claim wherein the said mounting bracket consists of two round bars secured to a base unit, a compression spring fits onto each round bar. R clips fitted through the above bars lock the removable cradle into set positions.
  4. 4 An automatic tilting device according to any previous claim wherein the removable cradle is prevented from sideways movement by means of a rod like member secured to the cradle, which then passes through a hole in the mounting bracket as the cradle travels up and down the mounting bracket.
S An automatic tilting device substantially as described herein with reference to Fig 1-5 of the accompanying drawings.
