Description
- 1 A Holder For Compact Disks.
2307209 The invention relates to a holder for holding an object such as a compact disk (CD) and will herein be described with reference to such use. However, this should not be construed as the only type of object which may be held for storage in the holder according to the invention.
CD's are usually stored in flat hinged cases, which have an insert having a central housing compartment with a central clamping device for a circular central opening in the CD. Also known are stands in which cases are disposed to tilt around a small angle, these serve for the storage and handling of the tilting cases, whereby it is possible to leaf through a plurality of the cases. This known manner of storing and handling CD's is awkward and requires a lot of space.
The object of the present invention is to provide a holder for holding/housing a CD which enables simpler, space saving storage and filing and easier handling.
Accordingly the present invention provides a holder for an object such as a compact disk having a central mounting hole, said holder having:
recess shaped to closely receive the object, central clamping device adapted to engage in the central mounting hole and hence retain the object, and a bore hole provided at an edge of the holder to closely receive a ring of a ring binder or other mounting rod.
The holder according to the invention makes possible the storage and filing of a plurality of CDs or CD like objects, in a very small space, for example in office binders with lever mechanics, ring binders, ring files, etc. or by means of rod-shaped mountings. It is possible to mount the holder on one or t..,o parallel rods along which the holder may be displaced. The holder can be readily detached from the rods. A plurality of holders will commonly be mounted on common rods and their displacability allows the holders to be leafed through.
The bores provided in the holder, in particular the preferred provision of at least one in the region of at least one corner, makes possible mounting on just one rod, as a result of which the searching and classifying operation can occur by simply swivelling perpendicularly to the housing rod.
A labelling field may be provided to assist the searching operation.
Chamfers may be provided at the edge of the holder to facilitate leafing through of a plurality of the holders when they are disposed very closely one behind the other, for example in a drawer.
Conveniently the holder can be formed as an integral body via injection moulding in plastics materials.
A holder for a CD will now be described, by way of BAD ORIGINAL - 3 example only, with reference to the accompanying figure 1 which shows a plan view of the holder.
The holder 2 shown in figure 1 comprises a thin square body made of plastics material. A central circular recess 4 is provided to receive a CD (not shown). A clamping device 6 has a ring of elastically flexible teeth 8. Each tooth is radially inwardly directed and extends up out of the plane of the body. In section perpendicular to the plane of the body each tooth is Z-shaped to engage in the central mounting hole of a conventional CD and retain the CD in the recess.
At opposite sides 10, 12 of the holder 2, two diametrically opposite openings 14, 16 are provided through the recess 4 to allow manual access to the CD for ready removal.
Two bores 20,22 are provided extending through the plane of the body 2 at a side 108 disposed perpendicularly to the sides 10, 12. The bores 20,22 are located between the recess 4 and an edge 19. Each bore 20, 22, is in open communication with the edge 19 via a slit 24, 26. The width of the slits 24, 26 is less than the diameter of the bores 20, 22. Near the edge 19 each wall of each slit has a projection 32, 34, 36, 38 protruding slightly into the slit space 28, 30 in opposing relation to another projection on the opposite wall. The projections 32, 34, 36 and 38 act to inhibit unintentional detachment of the plate 2 from a mounting.
BAD ORIGINAL 4 associated with is located one to Thus resiliently displaceable wall parts 48,50,52,54 are formed to define the walls of each slit 24,26.The wall parts 24,26 can be deformed to enable a mounting such as a rod of diameter greater than the rest width of the slit 24,26 to be pressed though the slit into the communicating bore 20,22.
By means of the bores 20, 22 or the bores 20, 22 and slits 24, 26, the plates 2 can be stored in a space-saving arrangement in devices in the manner of office files with lever mechanics, ring binders and the like or on rod-shaped mountings.
A pair of notches 40,42 44,46 is each slit 24,26. Each notch 40,42,44,46 each side of the associated slit 24,26.
Instead of or in addition to the bores 20, 22, in the region of each corner 56, 58 next to the bores 20, 22, bores 60, 62 may for example be constructed as predetermined breaking points for threading the plates 2 on for example only one mounting rod (not represented), so that the plates can be swivelled on the rod.
A labelling field 64 is provided on the side opposite the bores 20, 22.
Each edge of the holder is preferably formed with a chamfer 66. The chamfer allows a collection of the holders arrayed together in a drawer to be comfortably leafed through, even when they are disposed tightly one behind the other.
The holder described above for housing CDs can be BAD ORIGINAL manufactured cheaply from plastics by the injection method.
