Abstract

A scanner housing includes a scanner case 11 covered with a flat bottom cover 15 to hold a contact image sensor type scanning mechanism. The scanner case has a document input port 18, a scanned document output port 17 and a monitor mount 10 integrally moulded on the scanner case at one side for carrying a monitor 13, the monitor mount having a top coupling portion for coupling to the monitor.

Description

SCANNER AND SCANNER HOUSING This invention relates to scanners and scanner housings.
A variety of computer peripheral cquipment including monitors, printers, modems, scanners, etc., have been well developed, and are intensively used by computer users. When various computer peripheral equipment are used with a personal computer, much table top space is needed. Furthermore, a contact image sensor type scanner occupies much table top space. When a contact image sensor type scanner is used with a personal computer and placed on the table adjacent to the personal computer, it tends to be moved here and there because it is not heavy.
This invention provides a scanner housing comprising: a scanner case for holding a contact image sensor type scanning mechanism, having a document input port for loading document, and a scanned document output port for output of scanned document; and a monitor mount integrally moulded on said scanner case at one side for carrying a monitor, said monitor mount having a top coupling portion for coupling the monitor.
This invention also provides a scanner having a monitor mount formed on an upper surface of the scanner.
This invention also provides a scanner housing having a monitor mount formed on an upper surface of the scanner housing.
The present invention has been accomplished under the circumstances in view.
Embodiments of the present invention provide a scanner housing which saves much table top space, for example by having a monitor mount integrally moulded at one side for carrying a monitor. Embodiments of the present invention provide a scanner housing which can carry a monitor so that it can be firmly retained in place by the monitor carried thereon when it is placed on the table top. Embodiments of the present invention also provide a scanner housing which keeps the contact image sensor type scanner and the monitor closely connected together so that the operator can review the image of document through the monitor during scanning. In embodiments of the invention, there is provided a scanner housing comprised of a scanner case covered with a flat bottom cover to hold a contact image sensor type scanning mechanism, the scanner case having a document input port for loading document, and a scanned document output port for output of scanned document, and a monitor mount integrally moulded on the scanner case at one side for carrying a monitor, the monitor mount having a top coupling portion for coupling the monitor.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, throughout which like parts are referred to by like references, and in which: Figure 1 is an elevational view of a scanner housing according to an embodiment of the present invention; Figure 2 is an exploded view of the scanner housing shown in Figure 1; and Figure 3 is an applied view of the scanner housing according to an embodiment of the present invention, showing a monitor mounted on a monitor mount.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, a scanner housing 1 in accordance with the present invention comprises a monitor mount 10 and a scanner case 11. The monitor mount 10 is made of flat structure for positioning on the top of a table, having a coupling portion 12 at the center. The scanner case 11 is a hollow, elongated shell integrally moulded on the monitor mount 10 at one side, having a bottom open side covered with a flat cover board 15. The flat cover board 15 holds a contact image sensor type scanning mechanism 14, and is fastened to the scanner case 11 at the bottom side by screws 16. When installed, the flat bottom side of the flat cover board 15 is disposed in flush with the flat bottom side of the monitor mount 10. The scanner case 11 comprises an elongated document input port 18 and an elongated scanned document output port 17 at the top in different directions. When a document is put into the document input port 18, it is carried through the contact image sensor of the contact image sensor type scanning mechanism, and then moved out of the scanned document output port 17. The document input port 18 is preferably made on the scanner case 11 at the top near the front side if the scanner is designed for scanning thick documents. If the document input port 18 is designed at the top near the front side, the scanned document output port 17 is preferably made at the top near the back side.
Referring to Figure 3 and Figure 2 again, when the scanner housing 1 is placed on a table top, a monitor 13 can be supported on the monitor mount 10 and fastened to the coupling portion 12. When a document is scanned through the contact image sensor type scanning mechanism 14, the image of document can be monitored by the operator through the monitor 13.
Embodiments of the invention therefore provide a scanner housing including a scanner case covered with a flat bottom cover to hold a contact image sensor type scanning mechanism. The scanner case has a document input port for output of scanned document, and a monitor mount integrally moulded on the scanner case at one side for carrying a monitor, the monitor mount having a top coupling portion for coupling to the monitor.
It is to be understood that the drawings are designed for purposes of illustration only, and are not intended as a definition of the limits and scope of the invention disclosed.
