Abstract
A tool or device for channeling water or dirty water squirting from an open vent or bleed screw. The tool is hand held over the vent screw (c) and hand pressure sealed by means of a flexible washer (e) fixed to one end of a hollow elbow (f). An extra long radiator key (a) which itself is sealed by means of a grommet (b) through the elbow (f), connects and opens the vent screw. (c). The air and water squirting from the opened vent screw (c) is therefore channelled through the elbow (f) and into a bucket or similar receptacle via a hose (g) connected to the elbow. (f).
Description
DOMESTIC RADIATOR BLEEDING TOOL
This invention is concerned with air-venting or bleeding domestic water filled radiators.
Provision for venting exists on all radiators.
However there are various drawbacks. when a standard key opens the air vent, air and water squirts out.
Often dirty water is quirted over wall and floor coverings.
To overcome the problems, the device has a hollow elbow made from a fairly rigid material, with a compressible washer one end and a flexible tube fixed to the other end.
A hole with a grummet is positioned on the elbow to house the radiator key which protrudes through the compressible washer for locating on the bleeding screw.
The invention will now be further described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
The drawing shows a cross section of the device in use.
According to the invention, a radiator key (a) is positioned through the grummet (b) and on to the bleeding screw (c).
The tool is positioned over the radiator plug nut (d) and the compressible material washer (e) make(a water tight seal when moderate hand pressure is applied to the elbow (f).
When the bleeding or venting screw is opened with the key (a), water squirts out of the radiator into the elbow and runs through the flexible tube tgj and into a bucket or other suitable receptacle.
Using the device has two effects.
First it avoids spoiling wall and floor coverings with sometimes very dirty water from the central heating system.
Second it allows the easy release of quantities of water as required to bleed radiators properly without the normal splashing of unounding areas such as wall and floor coverings.
Obviously, to one skilled in the arts, other means of water sealing the device would be obvious and therefore induded within the scope of the protection.
Claims (2)
1. A device including a radiator key sealed through a hollow elbow
and with a flexible sealing washer on one end of the elbow and
hose on the other end for the purpose of channelling water or dirty
water squirting from radiators while venting is being carried out.
2. A device, as claimed in Claim 1 to prevent water or dirty water
squirting over wall and floor finishes by controlling and channelling
it into a bucket or similar receptacle.
