Abstract

A motorcyclists or other suit is heated by a circulation of liquid heated by the engines liquid cooling system via a heat exchanger or by a liquid filled coil in or around the exhaust system. The hot liquid is fed into the suit by a self sealing detachable umbilical, which has quick release snap-on snap-off connectors both on the suit end and the end that connects into the motorcycle. The suit has a control panel situated on the left thigh which can enable temperature and water flow to be controlled to upper and lower parts of the body separately. A mechanical or electrical pump keeps the fluid circulating. A protective layer between the users clothes and the network of liquid filled tubes protects the user from possible scalding. The suit could be adapted to any manually operated equipment that creates enough heat, farm or other equipment without a cabin to keep the operator warm such as a snow plough or snow bike.

Description

MOTORCYCLE SUIT This invention relates to a heated motor cycle suit.
Motorcycles are used throughout the wold , quite often in very cold weather conditions . Motorcyclists may often find weather conditions so adverse that the risk of hypothermia incurred during a joumey in extreme cold can mean that that journey cannot take place.
The idea of heating a suit worn by the motorcyclist will now be explained.
The combustion of fuel during the operation of a motorcycle creates heat . This invention relates to the idea of transferring the heat created from that combustion and using it to warm up the motorcyclist.
The heat created by the combustion is removed from the engine either by water cooling or by air cooling.
In the case of a water cooled engine the cooling water could be channelled and circulated through a network of tubes within the users suit via a thermostatic control unit and / or via a heat exchanger . The suit worn would have a protective layer between the network of tubes and the users clothing so to prevent the possibility of scalding from the hot water within the suit . The suit would be connected to the motorcycle via a detachable umbilical cord . This would be detachable both from the suit and the motorcycle by way of self sealing quick release couplings . This umbilical would feed the hot water to be circulated through the suit and then return it to the heat exchanger or the engines cooling system . A control panel is situated on the thigh of the left leg.
This panel enables the user to; 1 -- Switch the heating system on or off 2 - Adjust the temperature of the suit.
3 -- Control the level of hot water flow through the suit.
4-- Enable the user to control the temperature of the upper part and the lower part of the body separately.
In the case of air cooled engines , a water filled coil could be fitted in or around the exhaust pipe and be heated by the escaping exhaust gases . The water in each system mentioned including that of the suit will contain a percentage of anti-freeze .
As in the water cooled engine the water once heated can be circulated through the suit by means of a mechanical or electrical pump.
This system could be fitted to any motorcycle or to any manually operated equipment that creates sufficient heat. Ideally this system could be fitted to new motorcycles during manufacture . Their are many different ways this idea could be designed and produced and for this reason I have not enclosed drawings of one particular design as I feel it may restrict the coverage of this patent application.

Claims (8)

1 - A heated motorcyclists suit which is attached to the motorcycle by an umbilical cord.
2 - A heated motorcyclists suit as claimed in claim 1 which is heated by a liquid circulating through a network of tubes.
3- A heated motorcyclists suit as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 ,which has a hot liquid circulating through it, that is heated directly, or indirectly , by the heat created, from the combustion of the fuel used during the operation of the motorcycle.
4- A heated motorcyclists suit as in claim 1 which has an umbilical cord which can be disconnected both from the motorcycle and the suit by way of self sealing quick release coupling, situated at ether end of the umbilical.
5- A heated motorcyclists suit as in any proceeding claim ,which has a hot liquid delivered to it via an umbilical and after being circulated through a network of tubes is returned back through the umbilical to be preheated .
6 - A heated motorcyclists suit as in any proceeding claim which may ,or may not have incorporated within it's system a heat exchanger to stabilise the flow and temperature of the heated liquid.
7- A heated motorcyclists suit as in any proceeding claim, which may or may not have incorporated within it's system a thermostatic control unit.
8 A heated motorcyclists suit as in any proceeding claim which has a system of manually controlling the flow and temperature of the hot liquid to the upper and lower parts of the body independently.
9- A heated motorcyclists suit as in any proceeding claim which has a protective layer between the network of tubes and the motorcyclists clothing and is earthed to the motorcycle via the umbilical to avoid any possibility of electric shock.
10- A heated suit as in any proceeding claim which could supply heat via an umbilical and be adapted for use with any manually operated equipment that supplies sufficient heat during it's operation and where it may be considered in practical to have a cabin to keep the operator warm.
11 - A heated suit as in any proceeding claim which could be adapted to farm equipment [eg open topped tractor] .
12 - A heated suit as in any proceeding claim which could be adapted for use with equipment designed for use in the snow [eg snow plough , snow byke , snow cycle .]
