Abstract
An adjustable hairbrush allows usage of the brush for either blow drying and styling, or grooming of dry hair, and has adjustable head 1 movable on fixed head 2 to align apertures 6 and 7 allowing the free flow of air from, for example, a hairdryer through the brush. Apertures misalignment prevents or restricts such flow. Head movement also allows adjustment of bristle spacing. The bristles may be bristle clumps. The adjustable head may be removed for head cleaning, or for replacement by a head with different bristles.
Description
ADJUSTABLE HAIRBRUSH
This invention relates to an adjustable hairbrush.
Hairbrushes are normally comprised of a main body and a head with a set of bristles. The main body forms the handle and the base for the head of the brush. The bristles are either integrally moulded with the head or rigidly attached to it by mechanical means.
There are many different types of hairbrush used for varying hair types. Hairbrushes are currently available for use with wet hair for detangling, or styling, using them in conjunction with a hairdryer. Hairbrushes are also available for use in the grooming and styling of dry hair. The hairbrushes normally used for wet hair styling with a hairdryer have relatively widely spaced bristles to prevent tangling, whilst those used for dry hair grooming normally have bristles with a much closer spacing. In addition, the hairbrushes used for wet styling can have air vents in the head of the brush allowing the free flow of air from a hairdryer through to the wet hair during usage as an aid to hair drying and styling.
In order to successfully style hair in both wet and dry conditions it is, therefore, necessary to use two, or more, different brushes.
According to the present invention there is provided an adjustable hairbrush comprising a fixed head with bristles attached to it and an adjustable head with bristles attached to it and with alignable apertures allowing relative movement between a position where the apertures are in an alignment allowing the free flow of air through the fixed and adjustable heads, to a position where the apertures are in misalignment thereby restricting, or preventing, the free flow of air through the fixed and adjustable heads. The adjustable hairbrush can therefore be used to either style wet or damp hair, using a hairdryer if required, or for grooming dry hair.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows the two main components of the adjustable hairbrush.
Figure 2 shows the assembled adjustable hairbrush in plan view looking from the underside position. The adjustable hairbrush is in the open vented position.
Figure 3 shows the assembled adjustable hairbrush in plan view looking from the underside position. The adjustable hairbrush is in the closed vent position.
Referring to the drawings the adjustable hairbrush comprises of an adjustable head component 1 and a fixed head body 2 which can have a handle, or grip mechanism 3 attached to it. The adjustable head 1 has bristles 4 and the fixed head 2 has bristles 5 attached to them in arrays of equal longitudinal spacing for both components.
The adjustable head 1 is mechanically attached to the fixed head 2 by, for example, an interference design or similar means (not shown) which both secures, and allows longitudinal movement of, the adjustable head 1 relative to the fixed head 2 (the direction of movement is indicated by arrows shown in Figure 2 and Figure 3). In order to allow a relatively free flow of air from a hairdryer through both the adjustable head 1 and the fixed head 2 there are apertures or vents 6 provided in the adjustable head 1 and apertures or vents 7 in the fixed head 2.
With the adjustable head 1 in the position shown in
Figure 2 the apertures 6 of the adjustable head 1 are in longitudinal alignment relative to the apertures 7 of the fixed head 2. The apertures 7 of the fixed head 2 incorporate means, for example cut-outs 8 and 9, allowing the bristles 4 of the adjustable head 1 to protrude without impediment through the fixed head 2. With the adjustable head 1 in this position relative to the fixed head 2 the bristles 4 and 5 are laterally adjacent. This positioning allows the adjustable hairbrush to be used, for example, as a styling brush for wet or damp hair in conjunction with, for example, a hairdryer blowing air through the relatively longitudinally aligned apertures 6 and 7 of the adjustable head 1 and the fixed head 2.
With the adjustable head 1 moved to the position shown in
Figure 3 the apertures 6 of the adjustable head 1 are now not in longitudinal alignment relative to the apertures 7 of the fixed head 2. The bristles 4 of the adjustable head 1 are now not in relative lateral alignment with the bristles 5 of the fixed head 2 thus reducing the longitudinal bristle spacing. This positioning allows the adjustable hairbrush to be used, for example, as a grooming brush for dry hair.
The relative longitudinal positioning of the adjustable head 1 to the fixed head 2 can be made continuously, or discretely, variable between a position as shown in
Figure 2 with the apertures 6 and 7 in longitudinal, or nearly longitudinal, alignment to a position as shown in
Figure 3 with complete, or nearly complete, longitudinal misalignment of the apertures 6 and 7.
The bristles 4 and 5 can be single individual bristles as shown or can be, for example, multiple bristle clumps in the relative positions shown in Figure 2 and Figure 3.
The adjustable head 1 can also be removed if required for cleaning purposes or to interchange it with another adjustable head with different bristle configurations, or aperture configurations, for different hair grooming purposes.
Claims (4)
1 An adjustable hairbrush comprising a fixed head with
bristles attached to it and an adjustable head with
bristles attached to it and with alignable apertures
allowing relative movement between a position where
the apertures are in an alignment allowing the free
flow of air through the fixed and adjustable heads, to a
position where the apertures are in misalignment thereby
restricting, or preventing, the free flow of air through
the fixed and adjustable heads.
2 An adjustable hairbrush as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the
relative movement of the fixed head and the adjustable
head allows the bristles of the adjustable head to be
moved from a position where they are in complete, or
nearly complete, transverse alignment with the bristles
of the fixed head to a position where they are in
transverse misalignment with the bristles of the fixed
head.
3 An adjustable hairbrush as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the
adjustable head is removable from the fixed head for
cleaning of both the adjustable and fixed heads.
4 An adjustable hairbrush as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the
adjustable head can be removed and replaced with an
alternative adjustable head with bristles of a different
form or constitution on it.
