Abstract

A publication 1 or printed matter comprises sheets folded off centre to form two different sized pages which are assembled together such that adjacent pages overlap on an edge parallel to the bound edge 12. Alternatively the overlapping can be on an edge at right angles to the bound edge 32 and each page can be formed from a single sheet, and in the case of folded sheets a single sheet page inserted between the pages of the central sheet pages ensures consistent overlap.

Description

A Publication The present invention relates to a publication comprising a plurality of printed pages.
Certain publications such as magazine supplements for Sundav papers having a plurality of pages can be difficult to leaf through mainly due to electrostatic or other forces between adjacent pages. That is to say the pages tend to stick together and are hard to separate.
According to the present invention there is provided a publication comprising four or more pages, alternate pages of which are bound so that one page overlaps the adjacent page.
The provision of overlapping pages enables separation of the pages to be facilitated.
Preferably, the overlapping occurs on an edge opposite to a bound edge that is across the width of the pages so that in the case where a single sheet is folded to form two pages, the fold is off centre resulting in to different sized pages.
Alternative pages an be bound so that the top edge of alternate pages is staggered with respect to the adjacent page.
Embodiments )f the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 snows a publication in perspective according ro S first embodiment of the invention In which pages overlap ro one side. and Figure 2 is a similar view to Fig. 1 of a second embodiment of the Invention in which pages overlap to the top and bottom.
In Figure 1 a publication 1 is shown in which ten pages 2 to 11 overlap with side 3' of page 3 opposite the binding side 12 extending to the right side of 2' of page 2. This is achieved b folding sheets 2 and 11, 3 and 10, 4 and 9, 5 and 8, 6 and 7 off centre at their binding edges 12. The sheets are lnterleaved so that each alternate page overlaps the adjacent page. The front page 2 is bent back at 13 to show the adjacent page In Figure 2 a publication 21 is shown in which ten pages 22 to 3 overlap with the top side edge 23 of page 23 extending upwardly fron top side edge 22' of page 22.
Alternate pages 24, 26, 28 and 30 extend with their upper edges level with edge 22', whilst adjacent pages 25, 27, 29 and 30 extend with their upper edges 25' to 31' level with edge 22'. The top free corner 33 is turned over as in Fig.
i to now the adjacent page 23.
As drawn in Fiq. 2 each page forms a single sheet. there, however, it is required to form the publication from an even number of pages with two pages to a sheet where there are sav five sheets, the centre sheet will have the two adjacent pages at the same level with no overlap. The insertion of d half sheet, that 5 a single sheet between the paqes of he centre sheet will, however, ensure consistent overlap.

Claims (10)

C L A I M S
1. A publication comprising four or more pages, alternate pages of which are assembled together so that one page overlaps the adjacent page.
2. A publication as claimed in claim 1 wherein the overlapping occurs on an edge opposite to an assembled edge.
3. A publication as claimed in claims 1 or 2 wherein at least some of the pages are formed in pairs from a folded sheet, the fold being made from one side to another through a point offset from the centre of the sheet.
4. A publication as claimed in claim 1 wherein the overlapping occurs on an edge or edges adjacent to a bound edge.
5. A publication as claimed in claim 4 wherein the overlapping occurs on the top edge.
6. A publication as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5 wherein at least some pages have a first width and alternate pages have a second width less than the first width.
7. A publication as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 6 wherein at least some pages have a first length and alternate pages have a second length less than the first length.
8. A publication as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 6 we rein the pages have the same length, overlapping being provided at the top and bottom of the pages by binding the pages in an alternate staggered relationship.
9. A publication substantially as described with reference to Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings.
10. A publication substantially as described with reference to Figure 2 of the accompanying drawings.
