Abstract
Matrix metalloproteinase inhibiting compounds of formula (I), wherein X is a -CO 2 H or -CONHOH group; R 4 is a phenyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl ring wherein any ring nitrogen atom may be oxidised as an N-oxide, which may be optionally fused to a benzene ring or to a 5-, 6- or 7-membered heterocyclic ring, and wherein any of the rings may be optionally substituted.
