Description

RECORD PltOTECTION TAB This invention relates to a videolaudio cassette record protection tab.
Cassette record protection tabs are provided on all commercially produced, blank, cassettes. They are not usually provided on cassettes which contain pre-recorded material. Current record protection tabs are in the form of a plastic spur or spurs situated on one edge of the cassette so as to cover a record protection well and forming parts of the cassette case moulding.
Should recorded material require protection, the tabs are removed and discarded as required. Once removed, the tab/tabs can not be replaced thus, the option of further recording on that cassette is forfeited.
A widespread practice exists which attempts to overcome this by stretching adhesive tape across the protection well, but, this method is messy, inconvenient, unreliable and damaging to the recorder meclianism.
According to the present invention there is provided a record protection tab which fits within the record protection well of the cassette such that its outermost face affords a full and firm contact to the record mechanism of the cassette recorder in record mode and is able to be replaceably removed from the well as in record protection mode. Neither the materials of which it is comprised nor its means of fitment will impair or be detrimental to the integrity of the cassette or the cassette recorder.
A specific embodiment ofthe invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the Accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 shows the relative part of A video cassette including the record protection well with the protection tab removed.
Fizarç 2 shows the inner and outer parts of the tab and their çn mponents Figure 3 shows a cross section of the cassette from view "A" (see fig 1.) with the tab inserted as in record mode.
Figure 4 shows a cross section of the cassette from view "A" (see fig 1.) with the outer half of the tab removed as in record protection mode.
(THE 'GSE NOT ARE NOT TO SCALE) Referring to the drawings ( PANEL F), the protection tab see Fig 2; is comprised of two main parts, an inner and an outer, and engineered mainly from Velcro material.
A contact face 14 in the form of a plastic chip, is permanently affixed to the outermost face of the outer part by contact adhesive 12.
The engineering qualities of the Velcro material ensure that both parts can be releasably secured together by their opposing faces 16.
The outermost face of the inner part has a film of contact adhesive 12 and its protective tape 10.
The whole is of a dimension which fits into the record protection well 11, of the video cassette 13,as in FIG 3, such that the outer part can be prised free, does not protrude beyond the rim of the well, and provides for full contact between its contact face 14, and the video recorder mechanism.
The record protection tab is utilised by removing the protective tape 10, see Fig 2, pushing the whole into the protection well such that the inner part of the tab becomes permanently attached to the base of the well by the contact adhesive 12, provided on its outermost face.
The whole of the tab being fitted into the well, allows the contact face 144 to be offered to the video record mechanism as in record mode.
In record protection mode see, Fig 4, the outer part is prised free thus, no contact is offered to the video record mechanism.
The modes can be continually changed for the life of the materials by pushing the outer part into the protection well orS alternatively, by prising it from the well.
