Abstract
A towel is formed of a strip 1 of cotton material covered with loops on both sides and having a row of buttons 4 at one end which pass through button holes 5 at the other end to form the towel into a loop for hanging on a rail, eg on a cooker.
Description
HAND TOWELS
TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to hand towels which are particularly intended for use with certain kinds of cooker.
BACKGROUND
The Aga cooker is a high quality traditional product which has maintained its
popularity for many years. Being a traditional product, Agapwners tend to be very discerning about the nature of accessories which are offered for use with the cooker, and anything which does not provide a feeling of being a traditional high quality product is unlikely to be accepted. Thus, it is very difficult to come up with new accessories which will sell in large quantities.
An aim of the present invention is to provide a saleable, hirh quality
accessory for use with the Agalcboker.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention proposes a towel comprising a strip of woven fabric material having opposite surfaces substantially covered by a multiplicity of loops, one end of the strip carrying a row of buttons and the other end being provided with a row of button holes such that the buttons can be inserted through the button holes to form the strip into a closed loop having overlapping ends.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The following description and the accompanying drawings referred to therein are included by way of non-limiting example in order to illustrate how the invention may be put into practice. In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a hand towel of the invention,
Figure 2 is a detailed illustration of the material from which the
towel is formed, and
Figure 3 is a general view of an Agalcooker with the hand
towel in use therewith.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Referring to Fig. 1, the towel is formed from a rectangular strip of cotton towelling material 1, typically about 35cm by 85cm, and is preferably printed with a striped design extending in the longitudinal direction. As can be seen in Fig. 2, the material includes a woven cotton base sheet 2 which is covered on both sides with a multiplicity of cotton loops 3. The loops increase the softness and absorbency of the towel, and generally impart a feeling of quality.
The two shorter ends of the strip 1 are turned over to form end margins 10 and 12, which are each secured by a row of stitching. The end margins may be covered with cotton tape, but are preferably formed by plain transversely extending strip-like areas from which the loops are omitted. A row of equally-spaced buttons 4 are sown on to one of the end margins 10, extending parallel to, but inset slightly from the adjacent edge. A corresponding row of four button holes 5 are formed in the opposite end margin 12. These are in the form of slits which are cut in the towel extending in the longitudinal direction, and suitably edged to prevent fraying, preferably by over-sowing with cotton thread.
In use, the strip of towelling 1 is looped around the front rail R of an Aga
cooker A, as shown in Fig. 3. The ends of the strip 1 are overlapped slightly so that the buttons 4 can be inserted through the corresponding holes 5 to secure the ends together. The towel is thus firmly secured about the rail so that it is kept dry by the heat of the oven without scorching. Being a continuous loop, the towel cannot fall off the rail R, but on the other hand, the towel is easily removed when required by releasing the buttons from the holes.
The form of towel described above has been produced to meet the high
standaws applied py AgaLowners.
