Abstract

229,635. Raynaud, P. Feb. 19, 1924, [Convention date]. Pontoons.-In order to prevent the spread of fires from tank steamers to neighbouring ships or other objects, such steamers are enclosed in an insulating barrier comprising a number of pontoons suitably linked together. In the form shown in Fig. 2, where the vessel is not moored alongside the dock, the linked pontoons 1 completely surround the same, but when the vessel is moored alongside the dock the latter serves as a barrier in that quarter. The pontoons 1, Fig. 3, are provided with fenders 7 and manholes 25 for inspection purposes. They are linked together by a universal coupling comprising horizontal pins 12, Fig. 4, which engage with eyes 9 mounted on the pontoons and with an eye carried by intermediate plates 13 which carry vertical shields 16 and are linked by a vertical pivot pin 17.
