Abstract
A plasterboard lifting device has a framework comprising two inverted U shaped members, land 2, pivoted together at what would be the base of the U. Each of these members has means to adjust it's length in order to accomodate differing ceiling heights and plasterboard lengths. One U shaped member has a cross member 4 attached to it's adjustable part upon which the plasterboard is located for lifting. A prop 10, which may or may not be detachable is provided with a location on or around this cross member. This prop shall retain the device with the plasterboard 11 in place ready for fixing. <IMAGE>
Description
PLASTERBOARD LIFTING DEVICE
This invention relates to a lifting device for plasterboard when fixing it to ceilings.
At present plasterboard is generally fixed by bodily lifting it and propping it into place, a risky and labour intensive process. A device that is available is comparatively expensive due it's complexity. Another device is a two part clamp, two of which are used to clamp the board to the joists with the board then swung up into place and retained by a prop. This type allows only a limited degree of free movement to the board for positioning.
According to the present invention is provided a framework comprising two inverted U shaped members which are connected by a hinge or hinges at what would be the base of the U to allow a pivoting action. Both these members shall be provided with means for adjusting their lengths. One of these members shall be provided with a cross member at the ends of it's adjustable parts which shall provide a location for the plasterboard. This cross member shall be provided with a fixing which allows the attachment of a prop which is adjustable in length and may or may not be detachable.
By this means the plasterboard shall be raised to the ceiling and retained there for fixing.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig 1 Shows in contextual elevation the device in it's first position of use with a plasterboard in place.
Fig 2 Shows in perspective the device in it's first position of use.
Fig 3 Illustrates in contextual elevation the lifting action
Fig 4 Shows the lifting action in perspective.
Fig 5 Shows in contextual elevation the device in the fully raised position
Fig 6 Illustrates in perspective the device in the fully raised position
In use the device is first leant against the wall at an angle approximating that shown in
Fig 1. The height of member 2 is adjusted by means of 6 to allow the appropriate gap at 9. The length of 1 is adjusted at 7 to suit the size of plasterboard. The prop 10 is then adjusted by 8 to provide an angle approximating that shown in Fig 5. The plasterboard 11 is then placed upon 4 and the device is raised as shown in Fig 5 where it is retained in position by 10. Free movement of the plasterboard is ensured due to the gap at 9 being greater than the thickness of the plasterboard.
Claims (6)
- A A framework comprising two inverted U shaped members which are connected by a hinge or hinges at what would be the base of the U to allow a pivoting action.
- 2 A framework as claimed in claim 1 in which the inverted U shaped members are provided with a hinge at what would be the base of the U to allow a pivoting action.
- 3 A framework wherein the U shaped members as claimed in claims and 2 shall be provided with means to adjust their length.
- 4 A framework as claimed in 1,2 and 3 wherein one of the U shaped members shall have a cross member attached to it's adjustable parts for the purpose providing a location for plasterboard.
- 5 A framework as claimed in claims 1, 2, 3 and 4 that shall be provided with means for locating either permanently or temporarily a prop for retaining the framework in the raised position.
- 6 A framework as substantially described herein with reference to figures 1- 6 of the accompanying drawing.
