Abstract
A moulded plastics body has a recess 5 to receive the pot and is provided with rollers such as castors 2 by which the body can be moved around, possibly by a lead attached to a loop 10. There may be three equispaced castors with shrouds 4 formed by part of the body. The recess may be circular with a shoulder 7 supporting the pot and a lower recess 9 for drainage. <IMAGE>
Description
Support Bodv for Supporting a Plant Pot or Container
The present invention relates to a support body for supporting a plant pot or container and in particular to such a support body for supporting a large plant pot or container.
According to the invention, there is provided a support body for supporting a plant pot or container, the support body comprising a receiving portion shaped to mate with the base of the plant pot or container such that one is received within the other, the support body being mounted for movement on a plurality of rollable support members.
Desirably, the support body is provided with means for attachment to a lead such that the support body and plant pot container may be towed (typically by hand) to a desired display location.
Advantageously, the receiving portion of the support body comprises a recessed portion shaped to receive and locate the base of the plant pot or container typically extending substantially around the periphery of the base of the plant pot or container. Typically, the plant pot or container will be of substantially circular cross section in the region of the base, in which case the recessed receiving portion of the support body is substantially circular.
Typically, the support body is arranged to receive a single respective plant pot or container only.
It is preferred that the recessed receiving portion comprises a downwardly extending wall arranged to extend adjacent or contiguous with the wall of the container or plant pot.
Desirably, the downwardly extending wall of the recessed receiving portion terminates in a transversely extending shoulder. Preferably, a further recessed portion is provided below the level of the transversely extending shoulder. In use, the base of the plant pot or container typically rests on the shoulder such that the further recessed portion provides a void into which moisture from the plant pot or container may drain.
It is preferred that the rollable support members comprise rollers, castors, wheels or the like. Desirably, the rollable support members are provided around the periphery of the support body, preferably being spaced peripherally outwardly of the recessed receiving portion. Desirably, the rollable support members are at least partially covered by a shroud portion of the support body, the shroud portion preferably extending downwardly to define a peripheral portion of the support body.
Preferably three rollable support members are provided spaced around an axis of the support body advantageously at intervals of 1200. The use of three spaced rollable support members ensures that the support body is stable even when resting on uneven surfaces.
In a particularly preferred embodiment, the support body is mounted for movement on castors, which castors are mounted to swivel through substantially 3600.
It is preferred that the support body is manufactured of plastics material (preferably of moulded plastics) desirably to form an integral plastics body,
The invention will now be further described in a specific embodiment by way of example only, and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a support body according to the invention;
Figure 2 is a schematic sectional view along A-A of the support body of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a schematic perspective view of the support body of Figures 1 and 2:
Figure 4 is a plan view of an alternative embodiment of a support body according to the invention; and
Figure 5 is a side view of the embodiment of plinth shown in Figure 4.
Referring to the drawings, and initially to Figures 1 to 3, there is shown a support body in the form of a plinth generally designated 1. Plinth 1 is of moulded plastics construction and mounted on its underside on three castors 2 (only two are visible in the drawings) spaced at 1200 intervals about axis X. The castors 2 are mounted by means of spigots 3 in corresponding recesses in the plinth such that the castors 2 are free to swivel through 3600 relative to the plinth.
The outermost periphery of plinth 1 is defined by a downwardly extending shroud portion 4 which substantially covers the castors 2 thereby obscuring them from view. A central recess 5 is provided in the plinth comprising a downwardly extending wall portion 6 terminating in a transversely extending shoulder 7. In use (and as shown in Figure 3) a substantially cylindrical plant container 8 is matingly received in recess 5 such that the base of container 8 rests on shoulder 7 and the peripheral wall of the container lies adjacent to or contiguous with the peripheral wall portion 6 of recess 5. Recess 5 comprises a further recess 9 of smaller peripheral dimensions which serves as a drain below the plant container 8.
In use, when a heavy plant container is received in recess 5 in the manner described above, the plinth 1 may conveniently be moved on its castors 2 to any desired location either indoors or outdoors. Plinth 1 is provided with an integral loop formation 10 for attachment to a lead (not shown) to facilitate easier movement of the plinth and container.
Referring to Figures 4 and 5, there is shown an alternative embodiment of support body 11. Similarly to the embodiment of Figures 1 to 3, support body 11 is of moulded plastics construction and mounted for movement on three swivelable castors 2. In this embodiment, support body 11 is not provided with a shroud covering castors 2 from view, and the plant container is received directly into the more central recess 19.
A support body according to the invention provides a convenient and aesthetically pleasing support for a plant container which enables easy movement of support body and plant container between desired display locations.
