Abstract

A fishing cast or line holder, e.g. a fly cast holder, has two or more flexible leaves 1 and 2 so that the prepared cast 4, comprising line and a number of flies, can be wound between the leaves in order to provide a safe and secure way to handle, transport and store the fishing cast or line. The leaves are joined together in such a manner, e.g. by fasteners 3, that they can be parted, allowing the cast or line to be wound between the leaves and the pressure exerted by the leaves will cause the cast or line to be retained safely inside. <IMAGE>

Description

FISHING CAST HOLDER This invention relates to a fishing cast or line holder or any other application where it is desirable to retain line securely.
Fishing cast or line holders normally comprise a single sided disc of either hard plastic or card around which the prepared cast, including line, hooks, barbs and flies or other components, is wound when not in use. The problem with cast holders is that the line is not secured and the hooks and barbs are exposed, which, apart from being dangerous, can cause the prepared cast to become caught or tangled.
According to the present invention there is provided a fishing cast or line holder comprising two or more pieces of flexible material laminated or joined together in such a manner that the pressure exerted between the material surfaces will act to retain the line, and any accessories, wound between the surfaces. Moreover, because the invention has more than one side, any hooks and barbs can be retained between the leaves safely, without the danger of becoming tangled when handling or storing or transporting in a pocket.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be desribed by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig 1 shows a front elevation of a cast holder of two circular leaves.
Fig 2 shows a section through a cast holder of two circular leaves.
Fig 3 illustrates the leaves being seperated and the cast being inserted between the leaves.
Fig 4 illustrates the cast fully wound between the leaves.
Fig 5 illustrates the cast being withdrawn from the holder.
Referring to the drawings Fig 1 and Fig 2, the cast holder comprises two flexible discs 1 & 2 joined together, for example by rivets 3, bolts, welding or any other means in such a way and in such a position that the leaves act as a clamp.
In order to insert the line or cast the flexible leaves are parted at any point and the line is inserted as shown in Fig 3. The leaves are then allowed to return to the original position thus clamping the line in place due to the pressure exerted by the two leaves. The assembly is then rotated to wind the line inside the two leaves. The entire cast or line, including hooks and barbs is retained by the pressure of the two leaves as illustrated in Fig 4 and therefore is safe to handle. The cast or line can be retrieved for use, simply by lightly gripping the holder at either side of its centre point and pulling the end of the line. The holder will rotate allowing the line to come free as shown in Fig 5.

Claims (5)

1. A fishing cast or line holder comprising two or more pieces of flexible material laminated or joined together in any manner such that the pressure exerted between the material surfaces will act to retain the line, and any accessories, wound or inserted between the surfaces.
2. A fishing cast or line holder as claimed in Claim 1 wherein, because the invention has more than one side, any hooks and barbs can be retained between the leaves safely, without the danger of becoming tangled when handling or storing or transporting in a pocket.
3. A fishing cast or line holder as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2, wherein the cast or line can be retrieved simply by pulling the end and allowing the line to rotate free.
4. A fishing cast or line holder as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 and Claim 3, wherein because the leaves are joined together, any accessory material, such as instructions, advertising material or the like, can be securely clamped between the leaves.
5. A fishing cast or line holder substantially as described herein with reference to Figs 1-5 of the accompanying drawings.
