Abstract

A knife 10 has a handle 12 attached to a blade 14 having a corrugated blade portion 141. The blade has a top edge 17 and a cutting edge 16 which is formed as a flat plane intersecting a corrugated plane at an angle, so that it has a corrugated form. The blade keeps food from adhering thereto during slicing as it has a corrugated form. The cutting edge saws food as it has a corrugated form. The blade is formed by means of forging followed by grinding to form the cutting edge using a grindstone 16. … <IMAGE> …

Description

2293343 Kni f m The present invention relates to a knife.
In the past, conventional knives are made such that each of them has a flat blade having a rectilinear edge. When such a knife is used to slice food, food adheres to two sides of the blade. This makes it difficult to move such a knife through the food. It is particularly difficult to slice food with high water content using such a knife.
To solve the above-mentioned problem, there has been a knife having a flat blade having a wave-shaped edge. A first side of the blade is a smooth surface near the edge. A number of grooves are defined in a second side of the blade near the edge such that they are transverse to a length of the blade. The wave-shaped edge and the grooves help keep food from adhering to the sides of such a knife.
However, it is complicated to manufacture such knives. Initially, each blade is ground by means of a grinder so as to form a wave-shaped edge. Then, each blade is ground on the second side by means of a grinder equipped with a grindstone having a periphery alternatively defining a number of circumferential ribs and grooves so as to form a number of grooves therein. The grindstone can only be used to grind 50 to 100 blades, otherwise it only forms shallow and vague grooves in the blades. The grindstone must be dressed by means of a grinder equipped with a steel wheel having a periphery alternatively defining a number of circumferential undulations. Due to wear on the steel wheel, it can only be used to dress the grindstone several times. The steel wheel must be processed by means of a lathe, and this requires a skilled worker. Obviously, it is difficult to manufacture such knives as it involves many steps.
Therefore, the present invention is intended to solve the above-mentioned problems.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a knife which keeps food from adhering thereto during slicing.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a knife which saws food.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide a knife which can be easily manufactured.
Therefore, the present invention provides a knife with a handle attached to a blade. The blade has a corrugated form. The blade is ground by means of a grindstone driven by means of a grinder so as to form a cutting edge which is formed as a flat plane intersecting a corrugated plane at angle, so that it has a corrugated form. The blade keeps food from adhering thereto during slicing as it has a corrugated form. The edge saws food as it has a corrugated form.
For a better understanding of the present invention and objects thereof, a study of the detailed description of the embodiments described hereinafter should be made in relation to the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a knife in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention; Figure 2 is a top view of the knife [minus handle] in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention; Figure 3 is a front view of the knif e in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention; and Figure 4 is an enlarged partial view of the knife in accordance with the preferred embodiment of this invention, showing the knife slicing food (shown in phantom lines).
Referring to Figure 1 of the drawings, a knife 10 has a handle 12 and a blade 14. The handle 12 is attached to the blade 14 in a conventional way which will not be described in detail.
Referring to Figure 2 of the drawings, the blade 14 has a cutting edge 16 (see Fig. 3), a top edge 17, two sides and a corrugated blade portion 141. The corrugated blade portion 141 comprises a series of parallel and alternating ridges and grooves, extending from the cutting edge 16 to the top edge 17, formed on both sides thereof, so that the knife 10 can be used to slice.
Referring to Figure 3 of the drawings, the cutting edge 16 of the blade 14 is ground by means of a grindstone driven by means of a grinder. The cutting edge 16 is formed as a flat plane intersecting a corrugated plane at angle, so that the cutting edge 16 has a corrugated form.
As shown in Fig. 4 food does not adhere to the blade 14 during slicing as the blade 14 has a corrugated form. The cutting edge 16 saws food as it has a corrugated form.
It is easy to produce the blade 14 as it involves only two steps: the step of forging the blade 14 and the step of grinding the cutting edge 16 by means of a simple grindstone.
While the present invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that variations thereof will be apparent to those skilled in the art upon reading this specification. Therefore, the present invention is intended to cover all such variations as shall fall within the scope of the appended claims.
